Yeah, Henrik. Me too. I just posted another one of these Covert-techs on the Star Wars Groups. Cool race!

The Verpine are actually the race the Rebellion contracted to build the B-Wing iirc

Yeah...I liked working the Verpine into illustrations. Cool race!

I had the pleasure of playing a Verpine Outlaw Tech once in WEG Star Wars RPG. There was not much he could not build, given enough time and money

This one is a Verpine. As I remember it every Verpine you drew rocked on toast.
I tried painting a Verpine myself a few years ago. Not very easy a task.

You're right! I've been assigned the task of illustrating this alien race several times, and it occurs to me that this particular species is usually depicted engaging in some sort of "techie" activity.

they all look like that? at lot of competition when applying for a job in the technology sector, I suppose then.

As I recall, LucasFilms was extrordinarily picky about every element of every illustration. If they didn't think something looked sufficiently "Star Wars", then it had to be changed. Great pains were made to maintain continuity. So if this particular alien race (the name escapes me after 15 years) was written into the Star Wars universe as a nerdy-tech-type...then who am I to argue!

The Verpine! One of the most prominent Expanded Universe species out there.
This particular individual is Moegid, from Cracken's Rebel Operatives. He later had a rather significant role in Timothy Zahn's novel Vision of the Future.

I really enjoyed depicting the Verpine, and I did it whenever I felt it would add to an illo to have one in it. It's fascinating to know that Timothy Vahn used these materials to add deeper connections to his stories.

has been a while since I watched anything Star Wars, but I guess they must have had their reason.

Personally...I don't think LucasFilm had a reason at that time. I don't believe breastfeeding had actually ever arisen as a topic prior to that illustration. Since time was of the essence...I think they elected to side-step the issue. Which is fine. I put a tshirt on Leia (see bottom right coener of "Happy Family") and sent it off to West End for publication.

High time I emptied my mailbox it appears
Maybe making sure every race has their defined speciality and appearance, without exception, is their way of keeping things under control.
I certainly would never have thought of breastfeeding in relation to Star Wars, but I'm not that into it, so maybe that is just me. "Happy Family" is a picture in you gallery? Or should I look for it somewhere else entirely, because for some reason I can't find it?
Your works are publicated as illustrations?

Wow...hmm. I just noticed we were talking about the nerdiness of "Hacker" and somehow got onto the topic of breastfeeding in the Star Wars universe. *scratching head* Weird. To answer your question...yes, "Happy Family" is an illustration in my Gallery. I was asked by LucasFilms to add a shirt to Leia because "We don't know how infants are fed in the Star Wars universe"...even though I illustrated the breastfeeding scene directly from Timothy Zahn's Star Wars novel!

er, don't blame it on me, you started it.
I looked through it again and found it this time, not sure who I missed it the three times before that. She's a human right? The only reason why breastfeeding would different than it is now would be because they decided to involve some technology in it. So perhaps they no longer do breastfeeding because they cannot be sure that no dangerous elements get mixed up in the milk. (maybe they had some dramas after a biological attack at some poin in history even) Or maybe somewhere in history people became averse against it as a result of some exagerated moral code that forbade it and this had some biological effect that mad eit more beneficial for the children not to drink it anymore.....or something like that. Or maybe they were just uncomfortable with the subject at LucasFilms.

The whole point of running every single illustration through LucasFilms was to assure continuity...so I felt I was fairly safe in illustrating the scene as it was presented in a published Star Wars novel that had already passed scrutiny. Apparently I was mistaken! Though I was perplexed at the time, I'm happy LucasFilms made that particular decision because it makes for a funny topic of conversation. The best explanation I have heard so far is one offered by LegendxLM, who postulates that breasts in the Star Wars universe produce and store MIDI-CHLORIANS! Vive la Force!
