My friend Wulf (Simon) told me to look this up. I see why now! Well it is an awesome drawing. Unfortunately the Scouttrooper isn't going to succeed is he? Oh well, I guess he had to try though right!
DON'T DO IT BUDDY! I wish he could hear me! Lol

Simon seems like a cool guy and a dedicated Scout devotee. It is equally nice to "meet" you as well, Cody. "Wrong Move" is a Star Wars Adventure Journal piece and a fave of mine because...well...it has a Scout Trooper in it! He might be come out on the short-end...but he's still awesome.

I find myself actually hoping the poor Scout Trooper makes it !!

That WOULD be kinda sweet, Wulfie...but if I remember the story correctly...*shaking head*...wrong move!

Yes it probably IS the wrong move I guess. But my RP character is a Scout Trooper, so still got to maintain optimism for the Scout Trooper Side Lpl

I totally agree, Simon. I was mesmerized by the Scout Troopers the instant I saw them. So I understand your sympathy for them!

These kinds of pieces, the ones that use camera height, focus perspective, and break free from the constraints of the power triangle, are often my favorite pieces. And your use of screentones as a patterned inkwash rather than just a blanket shading really helps to liven up the peripheral.

I'm going to give credit where credit is due. You are using terms usually used to describe the filming process. That is gratifying, Chris. I DO think along cinemagraphic lines when I create an image. Twenty-five years ago (give or take a few years), I attended a comicbook convention in Boston with a friend who had written a short comicbook piece depicting some Marvel characters. Since then-Marvel editor Carl Potts was a guest, we felt this was a good chance to get some valuable direction. Mr. Potts graciously critiqued both the storyline and the art...pointing out both the strengths and the weaknesses of what we had put together. Even with a long line behind us, he spoke about layout...and pacing...and cinemagraphic sensibilities. While I don't remember giving him my contact info, I must've provided it...because several weeks later I received a package from Mr. Potts. In it was a two-inchΒ thick stack of photocopies. An entire book on cinematography...copied...page-for-page.Β Needless to say...I got the point!

Brave of that Scout, not giving in and diving for his gun.
However, it's also not very smart since the guy has his gun directed at him.......ethier that Scout goes John Rambo or he's blaster fodder.

It's a fine line between Brave...and Stupid, Cloney!

Thanks, Daniel! I can't take full credit for the "screentoning". This piece was done on a special paper called Duotone (or Duoshade). A special developer is brushed on wherever I wanted the tonal shading to show. Magic!

. wow, you did it by hand. Mr Skilled
. I've only seen screentone paper once at a convention. Cant find it anywhere
. Does the developer stain it onto your drawing or do you cut and paste it onto the paper your illustrating on?

Developement of digital graphics programs sealed the fate of Unishade and Duoshade paper. It went out of production in 2008. The developing fluid is applied to the surface of the paper wherever you want the shading pattern to appear. The fluid reacts chemically with the paper and the imprinted pattern materializes right before your eyes. Sorcery!

Lovvvve the look of those Scout Troopers, James. Even when they don't make the best decisions!

Thanks, Chris! The Biker Scouts are a favorite of mine. Even though the Scout isn't the main focus of the scene from this story...I couldn't resist making him the dominant focus. Too cool!

And yet ANOTHER Star Wars Adventure Journal illo. If there is anything I'm more fond of than Wookies...it's Biker Scouts! Pretty plain to see in the image. I chose an angle that would allow me to make the main character small and pushed him into the background. Then I could let the Biker Scout dominate the illustration. Perfect!
