Description
UPDATE 15-8-05 : Put up a proper pic that shows off the blue LEDs in the rims. photo by Noah Huber. The newest addition to our little bike family, Baby Blue. It's two-tone, half blue (House of Kolor Oriental Blue candy over silver flake & silver base coat) and half white (just regular white, figured it would make the blue pop out more.) It's based off of an old school Schwinn Stingray. Going to redo the seat because my brother didn't like how it came out. We'll get some special foam that allows you to have a raised image under the vinyl without ever losing its shape. Might update the pic if it turns out way better. Everything else is pretty standard: baby "ape hanger" handle bars, 72 spoke rims, white walls, cheapo handle grips til i can get the ones i really want, sissy bar, nice mountain bike pedals & painted fenders.

I take it back, this one and the black one are tied for my favorites. How long does a project of this depth take you?

Probably 2-3 days to do the body work and 2-3 days to paint. It's all the little things that take a long time i.e. grinding the frame, wet sanding, etc.
Now the black bike, making it from scratch to fit my brother perfectly, that took a lot more time.

Beautiful bike you got here man. I love the lighting in the rims and the metalwork on the frame. A few things I would personally suggest just from personal taste is a much taller sissy bar and maybe put the handlebars forward a bit to give it a little bit of a lowrider bicycle look. I have a schwinn stingray clone myself, along with some other bikes. I should have pictures up here soon, check them out sometime.

thanks for your suggestions. my feelings are that big sissybars are OK for 26 inchers but can be overkill for 20 inchers, the handlebars forward look is ugly, and the the "lowrider" look is getting played out. but hey, that's why we build em right? to make them look like how we want. but this one, it's just a cruiser, nothing more.

I don't really mean a huge sissy bar, but like the one on my schwinn stingray clone in my pictures. I do agree with you now that I think of it that the forward handlebars is overplayed, but if you took the handlebars ang angled them forward enough to follow the shape of the lower part of the frame it would make it flow better.

there's no link or anything, we're the first people to do it as far as i can tell. just drill the holes (match it up to whatever size you get, 3mm or 5mm), put the LEDs in (gotta by them "raw", just the bulb and the leads. pretty cheap online got 100 for $5 or $10, [link] ), wire it all up with batteries and a switch (probably will have to use 2 AAA or 1 AA depending on the size of your rim), tape or epoxy it in (hot glue gun works well b/c later if you absolutely have to, you can pull everything out without too much hassle), and that's it. you kinda need to know a bit about electronics (what resistor to use to get the correct voltage in parallel so you don't fry the lights) but it not too hard just time consuming. just know that blue/purple is usually the brightest (short wavelength) and red/orange are usually less bright (long wavelength.) this bike had the 3mm blue LEDs.

uh, all the bikes have coaster brakes, where you press back on the pedals to stop.
