Description
My re-drawing of artwork for the new iteration of DuckTales (found here ) in the original style.I put a lot of effort into this, since I was trying to prove a point (which you can read here ) and I'm pleased with how it turned out. This is also the first time I've ever drawn Huey, Dewey, and Louie, or Webby.
Sometimes I just want to grab modern cartoonisits and shake them, and say, "It's okay to use organic shapes! Really, it is! You can do it. Everything doesn't have to be angular!"
Scrooge McDuck, Donald Duck, Huey, Dewey, and Louie, and Webbigail are all copyright Β© Disney, as if you didn't know...

Why do people complain about the Ducktales reboot of all cartoons for using an angular art style?

CalamityKangaroo In reply to Guyverman [2019-09-03 20:59:34 +0000 UTC]
In honest response, I think it's because it's easier to compare it to a non-angular style since a non-angular iteration of it already exists. The easier it is to draw comparisons between two things, the easier it is to critique something based on those comparisons.

I agree; there's definitely some things to like in the new one, but it's a bit of a mixed bag. Nothing I don't immediately expect upon hearing the word "reboot" though.

That's great!! While I found the reboot awesome, I'll always like the old art style better. It's nicer, it's more detailed, it's more organic... sometimes I just pray someone will draw the reboot moments with the 80's style and when I find something like this... it's just priceless. Thank you so much and congratulations!

Thanks, I'm glad you stumbled across this, then! Sounds like it was just the sort of thing you were looking for.
I think it's also important to remember that this was more than just the 80's style; it's the general style in which these characters had been depicted in animation for decades prior. Just look back at some of Walt's Donald shorts in their heyday.
I honestly don't understand what the deal is with angular over organic shapes in 2D animation these days...

very well drawn.
what do you think will happen next in the show?

CalamityKangaroo In reply to Makosharkman [2018-10-15 16:51:33 +0000 UTC]
I don't know... I'm way behind. I saw the first 10 or so episodes, as that was all that was out when I first watched it. Since then, I haven't had the time to catch up. I tend to watch things in spurts, in the lulls between the times that I'm busy.

Oh, the new one. I'm certain I've watched the old one in it's entirety more than a few times through.

Makosharkman In reply to CalamityKangaroo [2018-10-18 16:34:32 +0000 UTC]
Same here but how many episode from the new one have you seen?
Also out of curiosity do you take request?

CalamityKangaroo In reply to Makosharkman [2018-12-31 16:17:52 +0000 UTC]
Thus far I've only watched the first season. I need to catch up when I get the time.
And speaking of time, I'm afraid I don't really have time to do requests. I do take commissions, though. (Info here. ) and if you don't want a commission, you can still make a suggestion... If I like it enough I may do it.

Though I like the 2010s version, I still miss the 80s version. And honestly, I had wished Donald had a bigger role in the older series.

You should read some of the old "Uncle Scrooge" comics that inspired the original DuckTales. Donald showed up in them pretty regularly. No Launchpad or Webby, though; they didn't show up until DuckTales.
