Description A continuation of my Sphinxes of the World series - I wanted to at least do a sphinx from each continent, but the last few continents (Antarctica, Europe and Australia) aren't exactly known for their big cat populations, so I had to take a few liberties.

Representing Australia, here, is the marsupial lion. There, see, lion is right in the word, there. Close enough. The wings are those of the kookaburra.

Fascinating. This is probably the only depiction of an Australian marsupial sphinx I ever saw.

It makes me wonder how child rearing would take place in such a species. I'm guessing that the pouch would probably be seen as a strong fertility and maternity symbol to them... I can't tell from the picture whether the breasts are present or not, but since the marsupial pouch contains mammary glands (usually 2-4 in many species, but opossum females have 13 nipples in their pouches), breasts, if present, would most likely be used more for attracting mates than feeding the offspring... That's my speculation at least.

This is so believable. And hilarious. And probably poisonous.

Amazing! The colours and choices bring this piece together so well! I particularly love that frilled neck lizard

Thank you! I was very pleased with the way the colors turned out, too - Australia's landscape definitely lends itself to more interesting color schemes.

Glad you like it! This was the most fun one to paint - I enjoyed experimenting with the white marsupial spots =3

What bird type did you reference for the wings? Or did you just make up the color scheme?
