one more. I may as well post what I have while I'm at ~Denzai 's house...you know I'm desperate to post art when I post more then one a day because we all know I have a distaste for that.but rambling aside...when I was reading USA today I noticed what? animation ad NOT 3-D movie reviews on the COVER? this was defiantly worth giving a read it filled me with so much HOPE! 2-d animation is not and Disney is not giving it up, 2 animated films are coming that are both revolutionary in their own right, The princess and the frog being more revolutionary then the other.
after reading the article ( this article [link] ) I was SO excited about the second movie I conducted an investigation on it and of course it lead me to wikipedia [link] this movie filled me with so much utter glee I HAD to draw something for it asap and thats how this was born, Ladies and gents It my pleasure to introduce you to princess Tiana, Disneys first black princess. anyone who knows me knows that one of my biggest gripes with Disney is that 95% of it's princesses are pretty skinny white bitches, and now hopefully Princess Tiana will pave the way for a more diverse branch of Disney princesses, it took like 70 years but it's a step in the right direction! next I'm hoping for a physically handicapped princess or a plump princess , bald African princess, gay princess, tattooed princess, tragic burn victim princess...the list goes ON. the movie comes out in like 2009 but I am already SO exited!
to be honest I was so thrilled to make this piece that I didnโt even know the title of the movie...if I did I would have drawn her holding a frog as oppose to little fairies...but hey it's not my fault they call her a fairy princess in the news paper.

Hmm maybe TRAGIC burn victim princess is a bit much, but I still think it's important to get kids exposed to things LIKE burn victims so that they aren't scared of people who really have those conditions in real life.

...they were announced as being the first Arab princess, the first Indian princess and Mulan is not a princess.

also: BTW I wasn't drawing seriously when those movies came out and even if I was deviant art did not exist then, otherwise I would have drawn things for them too.

This is absolutely beautiful work! Her face is lovely, and you did her figure and pose extremely well! Plus, her posture is nice! Plus, the coloring and colors are lovely. AND YES! It's so nice to see Disney have their first black princess. It's a nice change from the usual. Anyway, you did awesome on this! I love this a lot.

It's sad to know it's 2007 and they just now decide to have a black disney princess but made he wait untill 2009!! It makes me wonder why they were holding back for all these years bunch of jerks! Im glad they added Tiana and I hope Disney will be more diverse from now on!

and there are (technically) only 7 princesses that are white(including the one from black cauldron)
and two (now three, since mulan is considered a princess.for some reason...) of different ethnicity, so your a bit wrong on the ratio scale there

yes I know there do have other etnicities, but whats the ruling one?
also how many of them have dolls made? video games? the kingdom hearts princeses? toys? magizines? birthday cakes--you get the picture. weather or not their actual princeses in the movies or not it shows whitch ones get more exposure. infact up until very recently jasmine was the only minority in the "6" disney pricneses set up, up until recently wher epocahontes and mulan were added.
the other ones are cast aside like--some type of troll, it's rather sad. XD i've done alot of study on this don't ask why....but in order to make the pricness ratio even? we'd need like 5 princeses of every ethnicity. 5 asian princesses, 5 gypsie princeses, 5 black princeses and 5 abrab pricneses to even the score.
and well....I'm sure they would do a gay princess before a tragic burn victim princess or tattooed princess. but SOME DAY they will need a movie for the children who have gay parents, it might be 10 years from now but it will come. theres already a fairytale out there called " the two princes" it's only a matter of time before someone animates it, even if it's not disney, but it would be nice if disney was the front runner.

and i agree with you, while there has been a bit of ethnicity, which is good, they need MORE variety, which i think they are doing now. also though, i think the most important thing to make me like the princesses(particularly from the 90's) is their strong personalities rather than looks...but i sometimes wish they weren't so skinny*rollseyes* and also, the lack of a strong variety relates to the fact that, well, there aren't very many fairy tales as well known as the european ones(but, ironiclly, aladdin was originally chinese (mustafa))
anyway, ill quit rambling on, but i do agree, this is the perfect chance to bring back classic disney. the music, 2-D animation, and this revolutionizes things as well

and yea anime.... but theres so much freaky shit in anime I highly doubt anyone can take it seriously, with the exception of maybe revolutionary girl utana.
and oh I agree, pricneses like cinderlla and snow white were made so long ago their personalities are outdated. and oh i definatly agree with the skinny statement, like I said a plump princess would do the world some good.
also, we need to do something about the prince's as well...their all white pretty boys, even if the princess is dark skinned. with the exception of aladin and shenyu (sp?) theres no diferentical with the prince's at all. I would love to see a white princess with a black prince, or a hispanic prince atleast.

and no I don't mean interriacl couples because theres kida and that white exploer guy, esmerelda and SORTA quasimoto, as well as pocohontous and john smith, but thats just it it's always white men and a darker lady, it's a white mans fantasy to be with an exotic women. don't ask me why but seeing a black man with a white women is more...tabboo I think tats why it's not in disney very much.
allidin isnt a pricne but he's considerd a "disney hero" and falls into the prince category and yes, Eric is diffenrt he was more down to earth the the other pricnes too.

agreed w/ all of the above, and yeah, i think your right about the taboo thing....but one thing to take in consideration is the movie 'holes" in which the flashback story(set in the past) had a black male and a white female pairing

Yes, a friend of mine informed me of it. I am SO glad they're taking another stab at 2-D because, let's face it, their 3-D movies were flops! Shame on Disney AND Dreamworks! They abused a perfectly good medium! Ah, it makes me nostalgic for the days of my youth when 3-D movies were made by Disney and Pixar, and were of amazing quality with a solid storyline... and NOT mass-produced like we do with dental floss. DX
Not to mention, this'll be Disney's first black (for lack of a better word) princess whoo hoo for diversity! XD *LOL* Your comments for other Disney princesses made me smile! MORE DIVERSITY, SAYS I!

Aw thank god! Disney is finally bringing back their good old fashioned 2-D films! I thought we were stuck in a world now of computer animation. That's cool.. finally a black Disney princess. I think now is the right time to make her. In the past it would have been quite a challenge but I think 2009 is a perfect date for this!
I love your drawing of her! What I like the most is the antomy and the dress. You did a excellent job on both! I like how her hands are. Very elegant and graceful and princess like! I also like her hair and the fairies as well. Awesome job!
