Description Ciro Nieli revealed not long ago that during early production of the 2012 Nickelodeon TMNT show, April was intended to be a Black woman. The sketches was from 2009 so almost right after Peter Laird sold the rights.

So, here's my quick take on woc April in the iconic yellow jumpsuit from the Fred Wolf cartoon, since bright colors (especially yellow) is very complementing with dark skin. The Turtles is a hodgepodge of various versions with the 1988 action figures skin colors.

I'm gonna revisit this one and redo it, right now I just had to get the idea out while I'm in a bit of a dry spell.

They made her black in the latest incarnation. Was interesting to see how this concept would turn out. But they made her ANNOYING AS FUCK. >_<

Rise of the TMNT is so fast paced, random and far removed from TMNT that it's just downright idiotic. Even Michael Bay's crap is more tolerable.

Wasn't she somewhat...ethnically ambiguous in her first couple Mirage appearances before they settled on her initial design?

Yeah she was, seemed like Pete and Kevin had different ideas on her looks until it was settled. She was partially based off one of Kevin's girlfriends who was African American and Pete's initial ideas was she was a Asian woman, but all color images depicts her as a White redhead.

I swear by the time the Northampton arc kicked into gear they were channeling Cher, at least when it came to her hair design

haha, I can see that. Although Julie Strain is also a good contender, seems like a lot of Eastman's female characters ends up looking like Julie Strain.

And then there's Vol. 1 Casey, who looks like the living incarnation of every Bon Jovi song ever recorded

Indeed. Production meetings for some of the more offbeat children's cartoons of the day probably looked like outtakes from The Wolf of Wall Street

How else would they come up with ideas like that Sonic cartoon where he likes chilidogs and those weird villains.

I'll see your Sonic and raise you Rubiks, The Amazing Cube. If that wasn't the result of a coked-up bet, then the sky is green

Give it time. That too will get a gritty contemporary reboot like everything else.

I'm hoping for a Tailspin movie using the recent Junglebook CGI animals XD

As long as it doesn't fall victim to "40-year-old-writers-trying-desperately-to-assume-they-think-they-know-what-kids-consider-cool" syndrome

It's why every time a beloved childhood show is "updated," the world collectively holds its breath.

Seems kinda stereotypical 70s super spy... like something an Austin Powers movie would do.

That said, you nailed the execution. Looks great!

Eastman & Laird were heavily influenced by classic Marvel style (Laird especially), so it's all good!
