Ciro Nieli revealed not long ago that during early production of the 2012 Nickelodeon TMNT show, April was intended to be a Black woman. The sketches was from 2009 so almost right after Peter Laird sold the rights.So, here's my take on woc April in the iconic yellow jumpsuit from the Fred Wolf cartoon, since bright colors (especially yellow) is very complementing with dark skin. The Turtles is a hodgepodge of various versions with the 1988 action figures skin colors.

I loved the way you made the turtles different species by using 2 colors each turtle and how with so little material (the bandages and armor) you could describe a little more about them (for example how Leo is the one who takesninjutsu more seriously, so he looks more like a ninja with the black bandages and the armpads)

April was colored Black by Bill Fitts in the second printing of TMNT vol. 1 #32 back in 1992. Later reprints corrects her as White, though. It's also one of the Guest Era issues where April was depicted as a reporter and the issue is non-canon. Both of the covers to TMNT vol. 1 #32 depicts April with light skin.
She's also dark skinned or tan in Tales of the TMNT Vol. 1 #7, but that's the only instance I can think of where a duo toned comic have shaded April.
April's hair have for the most part in Volume 1 been fluffy and curly after her visit at the hairdresser in #4.
