So I started building assaultrons and sentry bots at all my settlements since they're great protection - they aren't stuck in one place like turrets are and are just all around fun.ΒI was slapping armor on all my Slog babies when I saw this fucker in line for the bar. HE WAS WAITING IN LINE AT THE BAR AND THE BARTENDER WAS ALL 'WHADDAP" I WAS FUCKING DYING.

Well my turrets aren't stuck in one place anymore... since I accidentally turned them into flying synths heads XD now they are running around shooting things and getting in the way.
It was probably one of the mods I installed... but it is hilarious XD

You see these eventually, and they're SCARY until you reach a certain level.Β
If you download the Mechanist's Lair DLC and do the quest (which is awesome) you can build your own robots. Mr Handy's, Assaultrons, Protectrons, Brain Bots (ew), and Sentry Bots. It's super useful because robots make way better couriers than settlers and they also are excellent protection for settlements. A couple Sentries or Assaultrons are way better than turrets.Β
Have you tried downloading mods yet? The modding community for Fallout is HUGE and they have loads of mods that can do little things that make it easier/prettier (the grass and trees are green, unlimited carrying capacity, costumes, being able to scrap garbage piles, etc), or big things like the Sanctuary Hot Springs home (which I use and love) and new player quests.Β

I haven't tried mods yet! I thought they were for when after you completed the game as something extra to do or whatever.
as much as it seems sorta like cheating that unlimited carrying capacity sounds mighty fine.

Some are cheating, like the 'unlock all perks' mod, and some are helpful for gameplay.Β
I really love the one that helps you clean your settlements by getting rid of rocks and garbage and all that ugly stuff you can't use and scraps it for concrete and metal and such. I also REALLY love the 'Touch of Green' because it makes everything so much prettier. Sure it's not immersive, but dang if it's better to see green instead of brown all the time.Β

OOoo that cleaning up the junk in settlements one sounds super cool. Does it let you scrap dead bodies and skeletons too?

Commander Hard-Ass (the one pictured)
Princess Spermy (A pink Mr. Handy with one arm)
Spherical Sphere (another Mr. Handy)
Angry Cunt (the Assaultron at Coastal Cottage who is angry because she's stuck at Coastal Cottage)

This one is Commander Hard Ass. The two Mr. Handy bots are Princess Spermy (because she's pink and has one arm) and Spherical Sphere. The Assaultron at Coastal Cottage is Angry Cunt because she is stuck protecting the worst settlement of them all.

Truth.
I actually ended up turning the swamp into a wicked cool patio system with a huge pub area. It's so heavily fortified it's pretty much self-reliant. I'm pretty damn proud of the place.

I've good Croup manor set up all fortified like that, too. Sometimes I like to sit on the roof and watch the BoS, raiders and children of atom all shoot the hell out of each other down the road. It's so relaxing. XD

I did some searching around on the Steam page - they say Codsworth has to be your current companion in order to modify him in the robot workbench. Give it a try?
My personal favorite is giving him a bulky sentry bot body and arms but keeping the teeny tiny jet. So I have this floating, flying hulk of metal unstoppable by all terrain bearing down on a very confused Raider screaming, "HAVE AT YOU! GRRRRR!!"

Β Now I'm wondering what robots get at the bar to unwind. or do they use alcohol as a source of fuel? That might make more sense, considering it's hard to find things like flamer fuel.
Β That's kind of funny, when you think about it. The robots see the bar as a re-fueling station, while the settlers see it as a place to unwind.
