Description Rick Hu McRange character design.

I designed this character for the Biped project at my school The Animation Workshop.

More concept art for McRange: [link]

The colour design is temporary and I have yet to design the final colour scheme.

Born 1883 – Died 1914
¼ Chineese and ¼ British 2/4 Scottish – Thus visible cheek bones, and slightly less visible eyes.
As 18 He joined the army at the Amercian civil war. After the war he found it difficult to make an honest living and he fell in with the wrong crowd. He joined an outlaw gang and participated in several misdeeds such as stage coach robberies and killings. He is not the leader of the gang but he is the gunner, since he obtained excellent marksman skills when he was serving the military.
At the age of 25 he led a bank robbery at Richwood bank in a town at the east coast. The robbery ended in disaster and the wagon used for the escape crashed in a ravine not far from the bank. It eventually came down to a duel between Rick and the perusing marshal.
Rick won the duel and moved up north to find a place to live with the money from the heist.
He was killed at age 31 by two lawmen surrounding his hotel room one night in 1894.
By that time he had been sleeping with a prostitute woman who would later give birth to his son.

He is a good guy but he seems to get dragged into trouble and the wrong crowd every time he tries to advance in his life. He will often seem unsecure of himself in his company and keep to himself. He has a habit of pulling a sneer on the side of his chin whenever he is in a stressed situation.

Great design. You've really done your research for this one! I actually fancy this color scheme. It flows quite nicely.
If I can be nit-picky, the only thing that is throwing me off in the barrel of the gun. The perspective doesn't look right for some reason.

I will agree with you. I spend more time on that blasted gund than the rest of the character, in the end I just started rendering the shit. At least the design reads.

Love it! A bit of steampunk blended with the west (by the look of his shoes)! Though I would like to see some shading on the part of the coat which is flying in the wind and thinner lines in the face so you can see more detail (especially his sideburns... maybe only his sideburns). Great work!

If you'd like to improve the image even further you should rethink the smoke from the gun. If the wind is so strong that his coat flies in the wind the smoke would probably be nothing more than a thin line from the gun, not circling around as it does now. That is if the gun wasn't fired just a second before, but then it would be more like a compact cloud in the wind but still with a thin line at the gun.
