Somewhere between 1975 and 1980, British director Ken Russell wrote a screenplay for an adaptation of Bram Stokes novel, for whatever reason, it wasn't made but he did go on to adapt another Bram Stoker novel "The Lair of the White Worm". The script was published in 2009 by Ken Russell biographer Paul Sutton, as Ken Russell's Dracula. So, it begs the question "what if Ken Russell's version of Dracula "had" been made". I think Dracula was an ideal choice for Ken Russell, he was clearly in love with the more romantic and gothic style of imagery and storytelling, and this shows in films like The Devils, Women in Love, The Music Lovers, Gothic, Mahler, Valentino, Salome's Last Dance and yes, The Lair of the White Worm. My choice for cast was a no brainer, Mick Jagger as Count Dracula, Micheal York as Johnathan Harker, Peter Ustinov as Dr. Van Halsing, Oliver Reed as Renfield, Georgina Hale as Mina, Michael Gothard as Arthur, Amanda Donohoe as Lucy and Alan Bates as Dr Seward.
