We were supposed to. If the series hadn't been cancelled, the NX Class would have seen the refit.

You made one mistake: Drexler left the old nav deflector on the model as a "backup"

She definitely grows on you. While she's not my favorite. Of all the various refit designs, out there, Drex's was the best.

Probably. But then she'd be less recognizable as the old NX. The designer wanted to give her the secondary hull, with as few a changes, as possible.

but she does look like an early constitution class

the funny and ironic thing camro, is that the NX-O1-D design proposal would end up leading to the Constitution; Ambassador, and Sovereign class designs later on in Starfleet's history, with the addition of the Secondary hull.
Yet, it is the NX-01 itself that would later on becoming the focus of the Akira class; designwise.

Cool design, I like Drex's design, I only wish they could of implement in the 5th season of enterprise.

As to the art program I use...Just plain ol' MS Paint. The XP version of it, anyway.

For a kit-bash it's really not that bad. I've seen far worse being put up as if they were something 'original' ...

Adding the secondary hull is a mistake in my opinion, its completely spoiled the lines of the ship. It took me long enough to get to like the ship in the first place but this makes it look mire like a joke really. You'r illustrations not at fault I think its the redesigner thats got it wrong here. Why considering the minicule amount of usable volume bother especially with that immense scoop at the rear, might have looked a little better from a design point of view (I only mean IF they were dead set on a secondary) to make it a cylinder a bit like the Daedalus design.
Great illustration but it just seems to raise a whole kettleful cof questions to me whilst providing no answers at all.

I agree. I was given a link to his blog for this particular design. I had to speculate the front a bit. As the schematic still had the deflector dish on the saucer, as well as the secondary hull.

Probably the only Doug Drexler design that is just hideously ugly! Structurally, this ship is a mess.
But, once again, you made an amazing image, one of a really complex and detailed ship. Sweet job!
