Description The Constitution Class Heavy Cruiser was what the Enterprise was in the original Star Trek series (also known as Star Trek: TOS). And was the only canon starship from the Franz Joseph's Tech Manual. It was designed by Matt Jefferies, and was only known as Starship Class, in the begining of the franchise.

i see that you've updated her. Also why did you omit the back and bottom views?

Streamlining, and uniforming my orthos, as I don't do aft views, anymore, and I only ever had bottom views for the Saladin and the Ptolemy. Also, if I kept all the aft views, I'd still working on them.

Beautiful design. She will always be an icon of science fiction. According to Federation: The First 150 Years, she was designed by Fleet Captain Robert April (I prefer his TAS rank over the rank given in the book). April commanded the Enterprise, while Captain Garth of Izar commanded the Constitution. Due to Captain Garth's high expectations, however, Constitution was not ready for launch on schedule. Thus USS Enterprise became the first Constitution-class to launch.

Well, Fleet Captain is an "in between" rank. Higher than Captain, but not quite flag rank. Though Commodores can also be a "Fleet Captain", as they can command a small fleet, while still holding the center seat, as a Captain.

Yes, but Commodore is a title, nor rank. Fleet Captain is an actual rank in Starfleet. Also, Fleet Captain April sounds so much cooler than Admiral April.

Actually Commodore is the actual rank, and Feet Captain is the title (which is why both Captains and Commodores can hold that title).

Usually the rank of Commodore was given only in wartime (though once given, said title/rank is kept until promoted to a higher rank). Otherwise it's Rear Admiral: Lower Half (the next rank up being Rear Admiral or Rear Admiral: Upper Half).

Starfleet, during TOS, used Commodore. In the movies, and early TNG, both Commodore and Rear Admiral: Lower Half was used. And later TNG, used Rear Admiral: Lower Half. Basically following The US Naval rank structure, as the Us Navy began to phase out the rank of Commodore, during the 1980s.

I know a little bit about this stuff. Long time fan, Former US Navy Seabee.

Thanks. I had forgotten that. The Navy still uses Commodore, but not as a rank. When the Navy detaches a surface action group, the commander of that group can be referred to as Commodore. It is,however, a rare practice.
