It makes perfect sense as a follow-on to the Daedelus Class, but it begs the question as to why Starfleet would change course from the more warp dynamic NX Class to something less elegant. Do you think it would have something to do with lessons learned during the Romulan War perhaps? Is it possible that while the design is less warp dynamic, it can perhaps sustain considerably more punnishment? I guess you can argue that following the war, Starfleet felt survivability trumped warp efficiency. Your thoughts? Or am I nitpicking?

I'm going to stick with the alternate reality scenario, where the NX came about due to Picard going back in time, creating what will become the Abrams Universe.

Where as, this ship is part of the original timeline.

Nothing wrong with nitpicking.

Fair arguement, maybe some of his people made a few modifications to The Phoenix he didn't sanction. Nothing like leaving advanced technology behind to muck up a timeline.

I don't think there is a "Phoenix" in the time line used at the Starfleet Museum.

It's mentioned at least once at the museum:

"2063
Dr. Zefram Cochrane's experimental fusion-powered warp ship, Phoenix, makes first flight."

It's big, it's chunky, it has the aesthetic value of a nude Stalin...in short, the ship is well-named.
