'It won't work, Captian Kirk.'

'It WILL work, or he'd still be gloating...'

The Animated Series has been canon? When did this happen? Every ST website I have been to say that ST:TAS is not canon, which is a shame as it got some really good stories!

Shortly after the TAS DVD set came out. I can't remember exactly when or where I learned the news. But was very happy when I did. Some still argue against it.

Speaking of the new movie, has anyone explained why the Enterprise is being constructed on Earth instead of in Earth orbit?

Two reasons, and both have been stated by the J.J. Abrams team...First, artistic licence. It IS a reboot after all. And second, it says it was built in San Fransisco on the TOS dedication plaque on the bridge.

Well, the plaque says it was built at the San Fran 'shipyards', I assumed it to mean in orbit. I just thought it was weird that they built NX-Enterprise in orbit, but not 1701. And what is a Reboot?

Yeah. That's a sticking point with fans...None are to happy abiyt it being built on Earth. And a reboot is just another way of saying reimaging...Think Battlestar Galactica from '78 vs the New Battlestar Galactica

Could it be that since the attack on the USS Kelvin, Earth got paranoid and built their ships where they could keep an eye on them.

(Please excuse any typos, I cut the top off my left index finger.)
