Description
Commission completed December 2013. Mechanical pencils 0.3mm, 0.5mm and 0.7mm HB and 2B. Lots of cotton wool, tortillions and several rubbers. Was drawn on A3 heavy-weight cartridge paper, but finished drawing measured 11"x11" internal mount (15"x15" frame). 10 hours over the course of a week.It was a wonderful pose of 'Cassie' the border collie. I love the hair detail, and was impressed by the photo quality of the eyes and nose. Thoroughly enjoyed drawing her.

Fantastic. I try so hard to get the white lines to be that good in mine. I just don't know how. It always tends to rub and blend in..cotton wool? Tortillions? I need to check those out. What's the hardest part to draw for you?

The hardest part is the initial layout. Once it starts to look right after an hour or so, then Im happy and just draw till I drop! As for the white lines, get a firm rubber (but not a horrible plasticy one) and use a sharp blade to cut a fine edge. You will be able to rub very fine lines with it. Also, I dont know how I drew without my electric rubber. They're great

Beautiful. The detail on the fur and nose are incredible, I always find noses difficult o.o

Thanks. Ive always struggled with the nose, but tried something dirrerent. I usually try and draw the speckled detail in with the nose, but this time just did a solid block of grey/black, then just before the final layer of black, i used an electric rubber to do lots of small white dots, then drew the lines between them with the last layer.
The electric rubber is a great find, I dont know how I coped before

They're dead cheap, the one I use is a brand called Jakar. Make sure you get a refill too (I think its 30 in a box). Im using them all the time and use atleast 10 refills for a drawing.
I also use a blade to get the rubber to a point then use it against sandpaper to get a really sharp, fine point. Its handy for the nose dots and for the reflections in eyes

Thanks, I just kept adding streaks of pencil then fine rubber, and layering it up. Very happy how it turned out
