I wrote my last college essay about these guys. Yeah, these guys were far from the good guys but there's a sense of tragedy surrounding them. Great work with this Joe, your attention to historical detail is amazing as always.Β

Thanks! I made this a long time ago and itΒ doesn't hold up very well in my opinion though.

This is good. Drawing Freikorps men offers more variety than drawing simply First World War Germans, but they are often overlooked. Their activities in the Baltic as well as in Berlin and Munich are very interesting. There are a couple of decent movies about the Freikorps in combat with Bolsheviks: "Menschen ohne Vaterland" and "Der Fangschuss". Maybe you have seen them.

I haven't seen them, but thanks for pointing them out to me, maybe I can find them on YouTube (good old movies are hard to get here in Holland, especially foreign ones).
And drawing Freikorps gives me more freedom in drawing their equipment and outfits; I initially intended to draw another one with an Uhlan or Hussar coat, but I couldn't decide on an appropriate late-war headwear, so I left him out.

Both were on youtube some time ago (that's how I watched them), but the last time I checked, they were taken down, or otherwise they've made it so you have to pay to watch them, which is really crummy. Your attention to detail and historical accuracy is very admirable.

If this is going straight to my faves, a lot of the merit will belong to that officer's monocle.
