It can be seen with the naked eye, with a visual magnitude of 4.0. The cluster appears roughly the size of the full moon in the sky under ideal conditions. It is the second brightest globular cluster in the sky (after Omega Centauri), and is noted for having a very bright and dense core. It is also one of the most massive globular clusters in the Galaxy, containing millions of stars.
The small spot in the lower left hand corner is another globular cluster- NGC 121

Wish I could go on a star photo expedition with you. It would be fun. I don't even have a clue where half of these stars etc. are in the sky. But at least you share your adventures with us.

Thank you I'm glad I can bring them to you. This globular cluster is very much a Southern Hemisphere object. It is fairly close to the south celestial pole.

Oh, well, I am not moving from the Northern Hemisphere, so I will have to see about finding something else to try to see.

Hey thank you so much Mark I'm glad you like it. Pretty happy with how this one turned out as it really was just a few unguided test exposures. Can't wait to do it properly one day and really do it justice.

Love the BIG Globualars Greg. Like you, I would love to to see what pops out with some real time on it.
Keep up the great work!
