"Conjunction"

Venus and Moon conjunction. 8th of October, 2013

Last week I spent two nights in a row gathering some images of the crescent Moon and Venus together in the west with the Milky Way above them both. During this timelapse, a car came along the road below the hill I was on and provided some subtle lighting on the foreground.
Canon 5D MkII, 14mm, Single 30 second exposure, F/2.8, ISO 3200

You probably get asked this a lot, but how do you do this? I am trying some astrophotography myself and keep running into the problem where I cannot get any non-blurry pics because the night sky is moving while the ground is not (or it appears this way), so every time I image the night sky with something in the foreground, either the sky is streaked or the ground is streaked. Is there some way you can compile images together that fixes this?

That photograph is truly incredible. I find it hard for people to say that human life is insignificant and unmeaningful when the earth is in the perfect location for life to exist and for views like this to be frequent (if there was no light pollution)

Thank you very much It sounds like you are breaking the "600 Rule"  I have a blog post on it here: www.capturingthenight.com/astr…
If you are using a normal tripod like I have in the above image then you need to stick to the 600 rule or less.  I personally use either 400 or 500.
Yes you can do say a fixed tripod shot for the foreground and then a tracking shot of the stars and then combine them together in an image editing program but that to me crosses the line between a "real" image and an image composite or "fake" image, and I do not do that.  This image is a single shot taken with a normal tripod using the settings listed in the description.

OliviaMichalski In reply to Daggettgirl [2013-10-24 20:28:11 +0000 UTC]

From a big bang long time ago.

Daggettgirl In reply to OliviaMichalski [2013-11-13 08:01:56 +0000 UTC]

How did the "big bang" happen? We are only human we can't know or think beyond human capacity. There is much more than just a bang.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

OliviaMichalski In reply to Daggettgirl [2013-11-13 11:05:27 +0000 UTC]

You're right, Science is not that far that we can say how the Big Bang happened.

But all in all I do not believe in God. He disappointed me for too long, and let my father and my grandfather die in the age of 16 and 18.
