Description
Β© Greg Gibbs. You may not use, replicate, manipulate, or modify this image without my permission. All Rights Reserved. This is one individual frame out of 254 from my last star trail shoot showing a meteor strike.
I have witnessed bigger and brighter strikes, including a daytime fireball, but this is the largest strike I have manged to capture on camera so far.
I am currently working on the video of the whole sequence but I am having trouble adding music for some reason. If anyone can recommend a good, free video editing program then please let me know. In the meantime you can find my first humble star timelapse attempt here [link]

Neither. It is a real feature in the night sky and this is a real photo of it.

Hear hear! Those pesky meteor fellas are quite a tough ones to catch. Out of the 100+ I saw previous season, I maybe managed to catch 8 or so. Got even a double strike in one frame. But most of those turned out rather sh!te anyway.

Thank you so much I live in rural Australia far away from any city lights. The small orange glow at the bottom of the meteor strike is as bad as my light polution gets.

man so lucky! I hope I one day go to a dark rural place and watch the night skies all night. I used to live in the Dominican Republic and the skies would be very dark so I could see the Milky Way and the occasional meteors. I'd like to let you know that I actually witnessed a close encounter with comet Hale-Bopp in 1997, around april. I recently painted a picture of the memory, here's the link. You must n=know how good the view of space is from the Equator. [link]

Thank you so much Ellisa It helps that I have very dark skies. The small orange glow on the horizon of this shot is about as bad as it gets for me.

I thought the glow was from the sunset or some cosmic thing, not the city
It adds to it, I believe

You're welcome Greg
I've tried that auto click function but found I really missed the excitement of seeing the catch--I'm easily amused and something like that would tickle me for months on end
