Description
This is from October 2001. It's too bad that I don't have ahigher-resolution version of it. I guess I made it small because I wanted people to be able to view the entire thing at once.
I don't dislike Shadow, but I have to admit I'm a little tired of seeing him everywhere. However, back when Sonic Adventure 2 came out, I thought he was the coolest thing since sliced bread. SA2's storyline was looser and more plothole-laden than SA1's, but it was pretty interesting and fun just the same, and I loved Shadow's role in it.
This comic illustrates Shadow's life with the aid of Webster's New World Dictionary. That dictionary lists five different definitions for the noun "shadow," and each panel corresponds to a different definition.
1. "Shade cast by a body intercepting light rays."
Shadow casting a shadow on Eggman as they meet in Prison Island.
2. "Gloom or that which causes gloom."
Shadow in the city, overcome by gloom because of losing Maria.
3. "A shaded area in a picture."
The president looking at a photograph taken by one of the Federal Bank's security cameras. The "shaded area" in the picture is the silhouette of Shadow as he robs the bank of the Chaos emerald.
4. "A ghost."
I think this is Super Shadow in spiritual form, shortly after his death following the BioLizard battle.
5. "A remnant; trace."
Sonic holds Shadow's bracelet and looks at the broken moon, remembering Shadow. Apparently I didn't realize that Sonic didn't keep the bracelet, he gave it to Rouge. Or maybe I was under the impression that he was only showing it to her, not giving it to her.
I like the concept/design of this piece and the Photoshop coloring is alright, considering that back then I didn't use layers and didn't know any good tricks for avoiding that gray "fuzz" around the lineart. I had to tediously remove it. I still had yet to learn that fingers actually have bones (see Sonic's hand in the last panel for the worst example) and some "straight" lines and curves in the picture are a
little wonky.
