Description After reading the recent rumblings about Vision being a possible member of the expanded movie Avengers come part 2, I wondered what he may look like.

Because, let's face it; Vision is one of those comic characters with a shockingly dated look. And there's nothing more I like than taking a shockingly dated character and giving them a ruddy good 21st century shaking.

This was just a pencil doodle but I liked where it was going. So I coloured it up.

The concept is Tony Stark fusing his arc reactor tech with some of Hank Pym's bio mech tech, and this is what grows out of the nano-soup. Synthetic flesh with nano technological armour. Maybe even with J.A.R.V.I.S's 'personality'.

I've drawn it as though the body has been grown and formed around the arc tech like vines growing and twisting around a tree. And here and there, like volcanic fissures, little energy wells spring to the surface. Specially where he concentrates power. So, palms (toy can't see) and legs and feet for his flight propulsion. Diamond on his head and eyes for his A.I. 'brain' core.

I took influences from the movie Iron Man crossed with Prometheus' bio-tech infused Engineers. The ones where you can't quite tell where they end and the space suit is fused onto / into them.

I thought a good way of getting that across with Vision is to have more red 'flesh' showing but have it merge with the colours of his inbuilt uniform. You could almost have him start off all red and naked, for lack of a better word, and his uniform- form out of him.

Also, if he were to have a cape, it'd be cooler to have it also form right out of his neck, back and shoulders. Not keen on capes myself, though.

Hope you like. Let me know. Always interested in constructive criticism.

I absolutely love this design!  A cool robotic quality is something that this character has been sorely lacking.
But, hands down, my favorite part is the origin you came up with!  Truly inspired, and a great update.

Cheers, bud. Very interested to see what they do with him in Avengers: AOU.

I see you couldn't find a way to justify putting a cape on your version either... Overall, I like it. I just finished my own version last night.

I can't help be remember what Edna Mode said about capes in The Incredibles. Ha ha.

I can only imagine Vision wanting a cape in the same way that Martian Manhunter would want one. I.e. to fit in and LOOK like a superhero. But as The Avengers currently stands, the only one of them with a cape is Thor. And with Vision being a, for lack of better words, robot, I thought he'd rather look like a cross between Iron Man and Cap. Which, I can see, is also where you're going with your own design too.

very much so. I just couldnt see the ultimate AI going... "hmm I think Ill add a cape, that seems logical". At most I could see him maybe at some point putting on a hooded cloak to hide in a crowd. lol

Where's his fabulous disco collard cape?

It was too shit to make the cut. Just like the lack of eyes on a character called Vision. That's like calling Professor X "Runner".

Haha, I wanted to call Prof X.... The Rascal!

Nice. I really like concept a lot. You've meshed it really well with the Avengers universe from the movies.

It's funny, there have been rumours floating around that Agent Coulson would appear again as Vision, and the face on this drawing has a bit of a Clark Gregg resemblance.

Cheers, bud. I'd heard the rumours but wasn't aiming for a Clark Gregg likeness at all. Happy coincidence, that. I only half heartedly did a movie version, if I'm honest. It was just one of those comic book costume / character designs that never sat well with me so I tried to make it suit my aesthetic more. Specially with Tony Stark recently rebuilding Vision in the comic books.

Yeah, I never really got into Vision, partially cause the design was so lame. Why would an android need a cape?

You're not the first person to point that out. I almost put the cape on him but just couldn't bring myself to do it.

Cheers. Vision has always been... 'bold'. Garish, I'd say. Tried to keep some of that colour, but toned down a little.

I don't know the character all that well, but I never understood why you'd build a robot and then put a cape on him - with a MASSIVE collar to boot. He's a robot! Build him with whacking great wings or something, it's as feasible as anything else. It's a brilliantly 1940s/50s thing to do.

I like this, I must say. Fave bits are the built-in lights and the red 'flesh' areas just fading naturally into the suit segments.

No idea myself. Someone in the know may consider this sacrilege. Ha ha.

I like the original design. But don't think it works in the modern day. And he's been rebuilt so many time he could always look drastically different. The idea with the lights is that his body is formed around the arc reactor tech like vines twisting around a tree. And where he uses power little openings appear here and there. It's all down his legs because I'd imagine that would be where his flight comes from, like Iron Man himself.
