************ UPDATE*******************
Wow, a DD? Thank you so much AngelYarn for suggesting and to Elandria for featuring
And thank you everyone for your kind and in some cases, not so kind words
..........................................
Here is the long awaited Art Nouveau Tutorial for my artwork Iris that has taken me almost a good week to do Sorry guys, there won't be many tutorials, they are a lot of work and makes me appreciate all the artists who donate their time and effort to do these so much more!
Ok before you start, all stock images in the tutorial is from CAStock and from almudena-stock if you want to get the exact ones. Here are the thumbs for them:
Also this is a tutorial that assumes that you have some basic knowledge of Photoshop and how it works, and how to work in layers. I assume you have some vague concept at least about how to cut things out and how to use masks. If you don't know how to do any of these things, you need to find some beginner tutorials in Photoshop before you start or you'll get lost pretty easy.
I used Photoshop CS5, but any photoshop version should be able to do most of the commands in this tutorial.
If you come across something that is very unclear or misspelled, please inform me and i'll try to correct it.
Thank you to for the lovely border I used in the design of the tutorial itself, and many thanks to for the beautiful model I used.
Hope you enjoy!!
Oh, and IF you make an artwork pretty much identical to the one in this tutorial (meaning using the stock i did for the tut) you need to credit me in the description of it when you upload it. If you make an art nouveau piece with completely different stock, look and feel you don't have to credit unless you want to. And don't forget to ALWAYS credit the stock owners you used and follow their individual rules!

If I never came across this tutorial and saw the picture, I would've thought that it was a digital painting. I would have never guessed it was a photomanip. That takes some serious skill and creativity.

I always feel really irritated that Mucha's style is now just regarded as "Art Nouveau" style

if using resources provided by other people is cheating to you i sure hope you craft your own pencils and paper or completely built your own laptop and digital art programs.

hahahaha that's completely different, crafting your tools and painting on top of another painting are completely different. All I'm saying is that painting on top of something that's made by somebody else, even if you have permission, doesn't make it your creation, you just modified somebody else's work. In my opinion tracing something is cheating.

It's not different at all because you are using a resource that somebody else provided for you. Many people think digital art in general is "cheating", because you're not using real tools. What do you think about that?
Well it's not exactly a contest so i don't see how anything factors as "cheating".
Many people are hobbiests who just do it to relax, have fun, and get a nice result. And its fine for them to do what they want. Photo manipulation is actually an art category, not everyone likes to draw from scratch. And there are many other kinds of art that tracing has to happen (a LOT, in design for example)
oh and fun fact, since you seem to like anime: Lots of serious mangaka trace all the time. (they take their own photos so they don't need to credit). Backgrounds, classrooms, cars, etc. It would take too long for them to try and draw everything they didn't know perfectly by hand. A lot also have assistants that draw in background etc for them when they don't have the time. A lot of Japanese manga drawing books i have all come with page of pose reference and guide on how to trace then edit them to make them into a manga style.
Tracing is only "cheating" to yourself if you are trying to improve your skill at drawing that object and choose to trace instead.
Otherwise if you are claiming it as your own etc without credit that is stealing
But any other situation isn't "cheating" because a) its not a contest (and when you learn that you'll be better off as an artist), and b) you have no idea by what mean other people learn best)
For example i used to trace pokemon drawings on paper when i was a kid. : ) if people complained at me i shouldn't be doing it, i probably wouldn't have ended up going further with art at that age and who knows where i'd be now.

That's a good point but I still disagree with the tools and tracing thing, a pencil doesn't draw by itself, were as a picture already has color, anatomy, values, poses etc... It's one thing to practice by tracing and another to just paint over something. I still think it's kinda cheap. Your stuff is great by the way. I think that drawing from your mind deserves a lot more credit. For me, references are ok as long as it's not the same pose, or it's not traced in any way. It's just the way I feel.
