************ UPDATE*******************
Wow, a DD? Thank you so much AngelYarn for suggesting and to Elandria for featuring
And thank you everyone for your kind and in some cases, not so kind words
..........................................
Here is the long awaited Art Nouveau Tutorial for my artwork Iris that has taken me almost a good week to do Sorry guys, there won't be many tutorials, they are a lot of work and makes me appreciate all the artists who donate their time and effort to do these so much more!
Ok before you start, all stock images in the tutorial is from CAStock and from almudena-stock if you want to get the exact ones. Here are the thumbs for them:
Also this is a tutorial that assumes that you have some basic knowledge of Photoshop and how it works, and how to work in layers. I assume you have some vague concept at least about how to cut things out and how to use masks. If you don't know how to do any of these things, you need to find some beginner tutorials in Photoshop before you start or you'll get lost pretty easy.
I used Photoshop CS5, but any photoshop version should be able to do most of the commands in this tutorial.
If you come across something that is very unclear or misspelled, please inform me and i'll try to correct it.
Thank you to for the lovely border I used in the design of the tutorial itself, and many thanks to for the beautiful model I used.
Hope you enjoy!!
Oh, and IF you make an artwork pretty much identical to the one in this tutorial (meaning using the stock i did for the tut) you need to credit me in the description of it when you upload it. If you make an art nouveau piece with completely different stock, look and feel you don't have to credit unless you want to. And don't forget to ALWAYS credit the stock owners you used and follow their individual rules!

You've just taught a load of idiots how to copy your work without making any real effort or having any real talent. Kudos.

You follow tutorials, walkthroughs, and guides in order to learn new techniques. Sometimes you must copy a piece by following the tutorial in order to learn a new skill to be able to create your own unique artwork.
It is absolutely no different than studying a subject, such as literature in school to better your own abilities like writing.

Unfortunately my schooling was very poor, so I had to rely on my own creativity to learn things. I have a very High IQ but it was squandered because of inadequate teaching. I could never follow tutorials to learn things; so when I see things like this that are basically a window into the artist's techniques, it feels a lot like cheating to me. The majority of the people using it will just copy and that's all; very few people will learn from it and work on their own unique style or techniques.

Regardless if you are highly intelligent or not, everyone has room for improvement and tutorials will help many people. All of my own skills are autodidactic and I have an eidetic memory. Tutorials are great for me. I, and many others especially in the photomanipulation community of which tutorial this is targeted for, will often read a tutorial and instead of following the tutorial verbatim, we will see a few steps or tricks that give us an "a ha moment!" Quite literally, and from experience I might add, we may see a step in a tutorial and think "that is such a great idea, I will try it out in my own piece." We do not all follow the tutorials, we sometimes use them as a guide.
Yes, quite a few people will follow the tutorial verbatim, but that does not mean that while doing so they are not absorbing the tasks they just completed and thus will use them in future work. It honestly depends on what kind of learner you are as to how well a tutorial will work for you. Most people fall into one of three categories of learning styles: visual, auditory, or kinesthetic learning, though few people will fall into more than one style of learning. Kinesthetic learners benefit the most from tutorials as they are hands-on experimental learners. Visual learners will also benefit from tutorials, but not to the same degree as kinesthetic learners. Visual learners do best with video tutorials, or at the minimum tutorials with numerous photos.

The point of DeviantART is to share art, knowledge, skills and styles in the hopes that young/new/old/learning/experienced artists can learn and develop their own skills, style and art. The fact that you've even made a comment like this on any tutorial designed to help people leaves me honestly a little speechless.

Argh, I guess my comment got eaten -__- Anyway, I wanted to ask about something: when trying to get those nice circles in the background, and following your guidelines to the letter, I still get filled circles instead of nice lines. Is it a setting problem maybe? I use Photshop CS ver. 8.0. Any ideas you might have would be helpful. thanks!

Yes, for any vector shape to not be filled with a colour you have to take down the fill. There are two ways you can do this; one is to look in your layer palette in the bottom right of your ps window. Above the layers you have two boxes that most likely says 100%, the opacity and the fill. Click the layer you want to affect and then go up and drag the "fill" box down to 0%. Now the vector shape should be see through. An other way is to do exactly the same thing but once you are inside the effects panel. You get there by double clicking to the right of the text in the layer you want to effect. Once the special effect (style) box pops up click on "bledning options" and then to the right of that drag the "fill opacity" slider down to 0%. Hit ok. Hope this helps!
