Description
Find more of my pencil work on::~~~~~:~~~~~:~~~~~:~~~~~:~~~~~:
A very, VERY early work in progress to show you the different stages of a drawing and how it's coming together
This portrait of Matt Smith (a.k.a. the Eleventh Doctor) on A3 size is commissioned by ~trinityknot
I am not done with shading his face yet, but will continue after I finished drawing the hair. That way I can judge how much more (or less) contrast and shading his facial features need.
More updates coming soon!

Personally I am never confident with what I draw. It's the response that I get from people that makes me realize I do (or don't do) good

Very impressive shading and smooth gradients. I can't wait to see it finished and I'll try to remember it for the group when it is.

Nice do you also have the blue one? It's one of my favourites to use (contains 0.5mm 2B lead)

I do have the blue one too but my blue one is a .7mm and it contains HB lead. My grey one is the .5mm and it has 2H lead in it. I use the blue one more often than not. I just love the weight of the pencils; they feel like they glide over the paper all by themselves

I thought it was Gordon Ramsay at first. Awesome drawing, though.

do you use a stump to shade the face? or is it all pure pencil? thanks.

I used a tortillion for the shading, but most of it was simply done by pencil (without blending)

yup gotta say my drawings consist of many layers, in which I will end with a layer of pure graphite without blending!
So it's usually like this:
basic lines
sketch
contrast
shading
pencil
shading
pencil
