Description Yes, I made a new tutorial! This time it's about how scanners work and how I edit drawings in Photoshop.

I know I said I wouldn't make any more tutorials, but I got soooooooooo many questions about this, and it's something I won't be putting in my artbook anyway, so I've been working on this all day long.

And now I'm tired...

Oh well, hope it's useful

I all thouse fundies are being a bit rude by saying that you're cheating by editing your drawings in photoshop, because that isn't the case at all!!! I hate my scanner to bits because it fades reds and refuses to scan fluro colours, it also washes out any greylead pencil drawings I try to attempt. By editing you are restoring your pictures to their real life glory, and to say that repairing a washed out and genrally inferiour scan of a picture in photoshop is cheating would also be saying that the people who touch up the mona lisa after its hundreds of years of existance are vandals and cheaters too.

This tutorial is extremely helpful, and your work is amazing.

editing drawings with photoshop kills the drawing , when you use dodge and burn and brush to fix the lighting you are making it better but you should fix that with your pencil

i think it's enough to use photoshop to clean the areas around the drawing

and even without cleaning it looks more natural

anyway it's just an opinion about the idea , but your drawing tutorials are great and very useful , and scarlett johansson looks very hot

So you're actually saying that Nicolien and all other artists should take their pencil and start to draw on their computer-monitors?

I'm just saying.

SpecialFlavour In reply to DrownedFeather [2010-02-15 21:28:01 +0000 UTC]

no , i'm saying that they should share the pictures as they scanned it , not edited .. and that's just a personal opinion i'm not ordering someone to do this

I have seen your drawings and you are a really good artist, but you should really mention that you photoshop your drawings. I went on believing that you were better than you actually are at drawing. I actually thought you shaded your drawings like that with just a pencil not changing the contrast in photoshop.

The only thing being corrected are the effects of the scanner... Scanners aren't friendly machines...

just a quick question how do u actualy use the eye dropper tool to change the background?
thanks

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Cataclysm-X In reply to rossco215 [2009-08-26 12:38:09 +0000 UTC]

if the background needs to be white/blank, pick the white eye dropper tool (which is shown in the Levels window) and click on a white area. Easy like that
Good luck!

So the end result of the photo shop darkening, is that what the contrast looks like on your drawing when your looking at it in person? Or do you make it darker on the computer compared to in person? Im just wondering! I love your art! Keep up the amazing job! Screw those people that keep trying to bring you down! They are just jealous of your amazing talent!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Cataclysm-X In reply to Sofera [2009-06-20 09:48:57 +0000 UTC]

I make the contrasts of the scans as strong as my original drawings so yes: when you compare the scan with the drawing, it basically looks the same. Although I must say drawings like the one of Jensen Ackles looks way better in person, since my scanner still likes to mess up the darker parts.

Thank you
