Rovie couldn't shake off the fact that he feared this phase of the journey the most. Despite choosing Cucao, the mare he trusted most for this kind of terrain and weather conditions, there was still a lingering worry. Snow kept piling up, and the cold seemed to bite deeper every day. The vast fields that spread ahead turned into steep mountains and deep valleys. Though Rovie and Cucao were usually unbothered by the cold —in fact she was born to face harsh conditions like these— even she seemed taken by surprise as to how cold it got some nights, despite Rovie's careful planning ahead for these days.

Days into this phase and as he crossed these old, impresive valleys, he could not help but he thankful for the quick and smart preparations his siblings and daughter made for the logistics between one phase and the other. They swapped one mare for the other, taking Skúa home and bringing small, fiery and feisty Cucao to him. Not only that, but the younger of the 3 siblings decided to bring a change of clothes. Warmer clothes. At first, he did not think this necesary, but as days got colder, the thanked her profusely.

Another old, wooden bridge apperared through the thick forest and as Cucao stopped for a few seconds to investigate it, Rovie took a quick look around him, pondering on the last weeks; he couldn't help but notice he was mostly alone. While he could see faint signs of other riders ahead, he found himself enjoying the challende of riding just with Cucao for a while. With Skúa, the youngest of the 3 mares and probably the youngest Zlesdin of the stables at the moment, it was mostly a comfort to ride alongside other riders. He did enjoy the company of most of them, and he was sure for the mare it was a comfort of sorts. He knew it was a risky bet to bring her around, being one of the most inexperienced rides they got around the stables, but he trusted her anyways. He sticked as best as he could to the plan, not urging her more than he thought necessary and using the company of others to make her as comfortable, too. It seemed to work.

With Cucao, thought, as she continued to investigate the wooden bridge— she was experienced. She was competitive, and had a confidence that not even Riga had. She enjoyed these challenges as much as he did and did not look twice to most terrains or obstacles around her. She was careful, yes, as she was as of now, but they reached a point were the both of them trusted each other desitions.
So, competition wise? He could take off with more speed around this phase and tackle these odd terrains with more confidence.
And yet, he did not really want to be left alone nor loose track of other riders for long.

As Cucao finally decided the bridge was safe to cross, his thoughts' quickly drifted to his father; He would've loved this view. He smiled, as the wild horses below made their way around the dense forest and the sunse slowly set ont. He really would've loved it.
