Description This is a heavily converted model for use in the Warhammer 40,000 tabletop game system. It will count as an Imperial Guard Basilisk, and uses the actual Earthshaker cannon from the kit.
The Chimera chassis that came in the kit went to build my manticore/hydra tank, so I wanted to make the cannon into a rolling piece of artillery.
My original vision was built to resemble a German .88 battery from WWII, but the scale of the finished model was too big to be a Basilisk. After a complete re-design I ended up with the more standard two wheeled piece above.
For WYSIWYG purposes: The smoke launchers are on the gun, the heavy bolter and searchlight are on the tug. The crew are only decoration, and serve no game purpose. The legs of the gun do fold, and the tug will connect to tow it around, but again in game terms this serves no real purpose.
Comments welcome, thanks for looking.

Very nice idea, but the split trail legs look a tad too weedy.. If you look at an old M-GerΓ€t (Big bertha) and use that box trail I think you'll have a great cannon

Thanks for the comment.

I had some really large legs on it first. They were a bit more to "scale" with the gun. It created a weapon platform that was way bigger than I wanted. I intend to use this as a Basilisk, so I tried to make the overall base size the same as a chimera chassis. It was just a way to use up some extra bitz, and not buy another chimera to use the cannon

They used to, but now with running they tend to get where they're needed a bit quicker

I love the idea of the conversion, though games-wise i have a few complaints (purley of artistic/logic nature, if you would care to listen).

This conversion is fantastic. THe idea is perfect, even the little tug is excellent. However, this thing is, how you built it, not mobile enough to be treated as "mobile" in game terms. If i was playing with this piece i would tell my opponent to treat the thing as "immobile" or that it's movement is up to 2d6 inches, depending on how fast they can dissasemble the leg assembly. Making the legs more robotic (to look much more cyber punk, IE that they can fold themselves up in a sec) would overcome that.
Now, this is not criticism, this is consturctive thinking for future conversions, honestly i would LOVE to play against this basilisc (heck, the cammo netting on this piece would look great )

Thanks Olovni

I appreciate the comments. Basilisks don't usually do too much moving anyway, I'd be fine with immobile.

true, but who knows, maybe you have to pivot to hit htat pesky Carnifex in the corner

Can't wait to see it painted.

VAFeuerstein [2009-11-30 18:52:52 +0000 UTC]

so is it supposed to follow the standard basilisk rules or the ones for an earthshaker platform?

either way, nice job!

I mainly plan to use it in standard missions as a Basilisk.
