Description
This is the anti-vehicle portion of my Warhammer 40K IG army. It's a Leman Russ armed with a Vanquisher cannon, two plasma cannons and a las-canon. It also uses the 50 point upgrade: Knight Commander Pask. He gives it BS 4, and adds one to the result on the damage table. Sometimes I give it multi melta sponsons, just to add two to the chart and watch people grimace, as the least I do is disarm themRelated content

Someone is compensating here. Definitely compensating.
Aside from the length of the canon, this looks great. The officer is really nicely painted.

Great job. never thought about using the Shadow Sword's barrel to make it a Vanquisher!

i like this but i think it would have turned out slightly better if the turret itsself were built up a little to look more capable of holding up that BFG haha, good stuff anyway though.

It's a Paskquisher!
The paintjob is superb, as usual.
However, the barrel is far too big, and badly proportioned. Take a look at the side view of the Vanquisher in the 5th IG codex, or some conversions up on the internet. What did you make it out of?

It's a Shadowsword barrel, and it's grotesquely oversized because I think it's funny

Well, The tank is used in a game called warhammer 40K. It's a tabletop game played with dice.
Long story short: When you try to blow up someones vehicle you roll one die and check the rulebook. There's a chart that says what the result is: 1=can't shoot next turn 2=no shoot or move 3=weapon destroyed etc. all the way up to 6=vehicle explodes. Sixes are great because then the resulting explosion can even kill more nearby units BOOM. Well a multimelta is a specific weapon that adds one to the resulting roll on that chart, and the commander character (Pask) in this tank does the same thing. So in essence when he shoots a vehicle with a melta weapon he gets to add two to his die roll which makes enemies explode on a 4,5 or six and the least he can score is a three=weapon destroyed (roll of 1 +2=3on the chart!)

CrabTasterMan In reply to cbomb13 [2009-11-05 17:38:04 +0000 UTC]
Oh I see. Thanks for the specific explanation of the dice rolls. Btw, I'm not all that familiar with the rules, and I want to ask you about the unit types: I've read somewhere that units are usually divided into things like infantry, jump infantry, mounts, bikes, artillery (unshielded pilots/drivers), and normal vehicles (pilots only die when vehicles sploderz). Do they have somekinda rules in Wh40k tabletop where certain types of weapons are more effective against certain unit types, and against certain types there are passive/active special effects?
But I still find a Leman Russ with such a hugeass cannon, on top of having 3 secondary Guns, I mean CANNONS, is just too much overkill.

cbomb13 In reply to CrabTasterMan [2009-11-05 20:06:16 +0000 UTC]
They call it the Armor Piercing (AP) value of the weapon. The better the value, the fewer enemies can claim armor saves from it. For example: an anti tank missile shot at a guy in an infantry squad=no armor save; however, a machine gun (we call them lasguns ) round at a tank = no possible effect.
I could write forever about it, but you can't beat the experience of finding a store that sells Warhammer, and playing an intro game .
And Leman Russ are overpowered, but it's only to make up for the fact that IG infantry are terrible.

CrabTasterMan In reply to cbomb13 [2009-11-06 02:27:42 +0000 UTC]
Are Leman Russ even considered good vehicles? I only know them from DoW, and in there their damage rate sucked donkeydong.
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
cbomb13 In reply to CrabTasterMan [2009-11-06 15:52:27 +0000 UTC]
Yes, they're the only vehicle in the game that can fire an ordinance weapon, and the rest of the guns on the hull.

CrabTasterMan In reply to cbomb13 [2009-11-07 10:44:08 +0000 UTC]
then does being an "artillery" automatically make them have pilot vulnerabilities, or "Artillery" just means they can fire "ordinance" and what is the difference between attacks classified as "ordinance" and normal attacks from an infantry or a tank?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
cbomb13 In reply to CrabTasterMan [2009-11-08 15:47:51 +0000 UTC]
It all gets a bit complicated, simply stated ordinance doesn't need to see what it's shooting at. It generally has a long maximum range, and a minimum range (when they're too close you can't shoot them anymore.) Some vehicles (like a russ) can have ordinance weapons. Some ordinance weapons are placed on Artillery batteries crewed by gunners (these are very complex units I don't want to get into.) All ranged attacks follow the rules in the min rulebook for the type of weapon no matter what fired it. The rolls to hit and wound would also be the same no matter what is firing the weapon.

CrabTasterMan In reply to cbomb13 [2009-11-08 16:25:08 +0000 UTC]
So there is no clear definition for "ordinance" in the tabletop?

cbomb13 In reply to CrabTasterMan [2009-11-08 17:09:47 +0000 UTC]
It's a complicated definition and, unless you play IG, not too many armies use ordinance weapons.

CrabTasterMan In reply to cbomb13 [2009-11-10 13:57:54 +0000 UTC]
OrDNance? Just remembered the spelling. My bad. Do guards come cheap on the tabletop? Cuz in DoW they are more expensive than Spehs Mehreens... just wondering. (BAD balance issues >:C)
Are guards good to play at all? I heard that their main style of play is limiting the enemy's ability to fight so their imps could go in there and flashlight them to death. Is this true?

cbomb13 In reply to CrabTasterMan [2009-11-10 15:44:07 +0000 UTC]
On the tabletop 2.5 guardsmen = 1 Space marine
They don't like close combat so shooting is the guard's best tactic.
If you were to start playing warhammer 40K I wouldn't start with IG, unless you really love the look/feel of the minis. You will either be frustrated with loosing your troops by getting too close to the enemy, or bored with never moving anything-just deploying a firing line for the enemy to run through.
Your better to start with Chaos marines, or Space marines. Just like 1000 points of them. These two armies are more forgiving, with fewer special tactics needed to play well. This will free you up to learn the basic mechanics of the game. Once you have the fundamentals down, start the army of your choosing

I keep hearing people complaining that SM are still overpowered and would win every match, even in professional contests. Is this true?
so a Marine is 15p, and guardsmen is only 6?

thanks. I've been reading wh40k stuff from time to time but I've never got to understand that term until now.
Btw, do you think that its overkill to have 3 CANNONs as secondary arms and have, in this version, a whopping asscracker phallic (sorry, just watched an awesome movie called "Idiocracy" and it's affecting my writing XD ) vanquisher cannon as a non-standard main cannon?

and the special rule is +1 damage against tanks and monstorious creatures when stationary.
and with pask, the tank kind of got 2 structure points^^
awesome tank by the way, even if the barrel looks little to big, if you know what i mean.^^
i have made an vanquisher myself, and it is devestating in game.
