Description
* You feel the time you have left slowly counting down.I made a battle theme for Dr. Iske ! Listen to it here.
This is how I imagined you would fight Dr. Iske, the adoptive step-brother of Dr. Gaster in my Undertale AU. You are only able to fight him in a Genocide Run.
There are SPOILERS up ahead. If you haven't played Undertale and want to know more about the story, I suggest you play it before proceeding to read this. Otherwise, enjoy.
Gaster is a Lord of Space, and Iske is a Lord of Time. Gaster can be found in an empty room with no walls that seems to be floating in a void. Iske can be found in a room with no space in it whatsoever; instead, he seems to be surrounded by time itself. The (often distorted) clocks floating about have no collisions, since time itself isn't tangible; it is all an illusion.
Never fight this guy. Once you do, you have screwed up your saves (yes, SAVES) for good (unless you're good at editing and getting rid of certain game files). Looking at his dialogue when you speak to him won't trigger the "flag", but voluntarily starting the battle will. Once you do, you will have to kill him or else he will NEVER leave you alone. If you close the game mid-fight, you still aren't safe. For example, if you saved your game in Snowdin (or even do a reset) and end up in the overworld when the game starts up as usual, the screen will cut to black 6 seconds later (like how it does whenever Sans "disappears") and his sprite will be standing next to you. The screen will cut to black again after the same amount of time and you will find yourself back in his room. He will then tell you about how he stopped time in the Underground to hunt you down and how he won't let you interfere with the very timelines he watches over. After this brief speech, the battle will start up again. This time, pressing the Esc key won't do anything; you'll have to manually kill the process if you want to quit the game.
The battle will start off with unusually large spaces around the average-sized battlefield your soul is in. Whenever you take damage, there is no KR (Karmic Retribution), and invincibility only lasts for 1.7 seconds. However, there is TD, which stands for Temporal Deceleration. The amount of TD you have equals the amount of space left behind in your HP bar when you take damage. Instead of red space being left behind as usual, you will see deep blue. What this means for you is that the more damage you take, the harder it will be for you to move out of the way of an attack. Getting affected by TD will either cause your soul to move slowly or lag with choppy movements at varying speeds depending on the amount of TD you have. TD goes away quite slowly, so heal yourself fast or else you're going to have an issue. Iske knows you will try to camp out in the battle menu and wait for it to go away, so he pulls a jerk move and freezes time on your HP bar until you have performed an action to proceed with the battle.
Iske is extremely difficult to fightΒ and will play lots of tricks on you during the battle. One of the biggest tricks up his sleeve are the fake-out attacks. If you fought Sans, I'm sure you're familiar with those kinds of attacks since he spams them in the second half of the fight. Easy to predict, right? WRONG. Unlike Sans, these kinds of attacks aren't scripted in a certain part of the fight; there is no way to predict them at allΒ since they are in a completely random order every time you fight him. Luckily, there are no Gaster Blasters. You're safe! Just kidding... he IS the Gaster Blaster. Remember the large spaces around the arena that were mentioned earlier? One of Iske's attacks involves trying to kill you with beams that shoot out of his mouth. He can shoot at you from the top of the arena, or fly around and shoot you from all sides in fast attacks similar to how Sans blasts you with a barrage of Gaster Blasters.
Other attacks involve:
- White Attacks - Direct interaction occurs where he tries to slash at you from above with his wings or tail in dodgeable attacks.
- Multi-Colored Attacks - Like any other skeletal creature, Iske will have bone attacks. However, they come in varying attack colors and aren't limited to white.
- Multi-Colored Attacks - The arena is temporarily distorted into the shape of an hourglass and medium-sized grains of sand of all attack colors from above. Move up into the top half of the hourglass to save yourself from taking massive damage when the bottom half completely fills up with grains (camping in a cluster of blue grains won't always save you since such an occurrence is rare).
- Yellow Attacks - This bizarre new kind of attack specifically speeds up time in the arena if contact is made with it. This is especially beneficial if you are high on TD because your speed will increase. However, like all other attacks, HP will be taken upon contact. Another downside is attacks that occur specifically inside the arena will arrive at faster speeds because everything in the arena is affected. Yellow attacks come in the form of bone attacks, blast beams when Iske tries to shoot you, and sand grains in the hourglass attack.
