Description
This was taken on my balcony, in the middle of the night, damn cold, and the only light is from my flashlight. The largest icicle was about one centimeter tallRelated content

Thank you, it's one of my own favourites. The ice drops looks almost magical with the light in them.

I like the drop, they almost seem to be hanging on too long. Interesting shot, I like the composition as well.

Ooooohhhh beautiful macro shot!!! They're crystalline looking!! The light shining off of the drops is just perfect to achieve that crystal like effect -- wonderful job! I'm not sure of your situation, but for a bit of advanced critique as encouraged... for a macro shot, the details are so meticulous. The bar that these are hanging off of is not in focus at the point where it detracts too much. It could either be in focus as much as the drops and be fine or it could much more out of focus. I jsut think it is right in the middle area that is just not right for either and a bit detracting. You've got the drops done perfectly (honestly they are perfect), just as suggestion to improve the photo much more to a complete masterpiece would be to work on the composition and its affect on the remaining content of the photo... Just my suggestion...

Thank you very much for the both nice comment and constructive critics!
Actually the bar is as much in focus as the ice drops, but since the only light is my flashlight, from the left, i think the shadows of the small ice particles stuck on the rod is making it look blurred. And i didn't wan't to blur it in the computer, i wanted to keep it like it was when i took the picture. And the composition, i don't know how to get it in a different way that would make the image any better, do you have any suggestions?

Exellent Macro shot!
I like the contrast. (But not your manual corrections on the background... )

Thanks.
About the corrections in the background: I haven't seen those before, i have removed some spots and such in the background, but i on my screen i cannot see the changes, unless i turn up the light to 100%, and i have adjusted my screen with the adobe gamma wizard, but i guess i have to check my pics with the screen on 100% light just to see any such misses.

I'm almost sure, that most people do not see the "mistake", but it's there. I always try not to forget to check my pictures twice in tube and flat screen, whether I made some apparent mistakes in post editing.
BTW: You whole gallery is amazing. I like most of your stuff! Keep it up!

I don't have any flat screen to use, is it easier to see such mistakes on a flat screen than on a regular?
Thank you very much for the kind words!

Zeitwolf In reply to CerebralCortex [2005-03-02 19:16:55 +0000 UTC]
Well, it IS easier to see slight colour differences on a flat screen... dunno really why, but the picture appears differently in different angles so that white for example gets "darker" when the angle gets smaller than 90°... while colour e.g. 250/250/250 which is almost white does not become so much "darker".... argh! complicated to explain, but easy to see live. Just try it at your local media market

I will try to find a computer where i can view my pics on a flat screen, especially drops, and i'll try to be more attentive in the future, thanks for the heads up!

Thanks! I took this picture in on my balcony, and it was pitch black outside (and cold as ****) but i used my tripod, and a surefire flashlight that i held on the left side, and that's why the light is so clear inside the ice.

It almost looks alien! I really like the way the light is coming through the frozen water. Nice work that the lighting is from a flashlight. Very innovative.
