Lydia didn't like the long waits, when her Mommy would go running off to get food in the morning and not get back till later that day. Sometimes it would be dark outside when Mommy would get back, and that had Lydia worried, because that's when they came out. And even though she didn't quite understand who they were, she knew that they weren't nice people. Even the people that she had once known, the nice ones like Miss Rebekah from down the street, had somehow become different when they were amongst them. They had become un-nice. And hungry too!

Lydia would often try to feed them by putting out crackers through the mail slot. But this never seemed to make them happy. And Mommy told her to stop.

She didn't like it when Mommy was away. The house was too quiet. Mommy said that it was best to keep it that way. Lydia often had to watch her cartoons on mute for the longest time, that is until they put on that stupid warning on all the channels, the one that said to stay inside. Lydia would always frown at it and think like no duh!  It was fine when they had put the message on Mommy's soap channels, but they didn't have to put it on the Cartoon Network as well. Now she had nothing to watch. And instead of playing with her Teddy, she would spend her time looking out the window for Mommy to come back.

Sometimes one of them would come up and drool on the other side. Lydia would shoo them away, but rarely would they listen. Over time she would learn to play tag with them, where she would get them to follow her from window to window, until she had lured them to the back window. Then she would ditch them and run back to the kitchen and have it all to herself again. It was her favorite window and Mommy always appeared there first.

It was going to be a long day, and the rain would only make seeing Mommy more difficult. Lydia spent the entire morning there, and even some of the evening. But when it became dark, she curled up next to her Teddy and went to sleep, where she had dreams of rainbows and butterflies. It wouldn't be until she felt something tickling her foot that she would open her eyes again. It was Mommy! She wiggled a can of ravioli in front of her--it was her favorite!

Only now could she close all the curtains. She really didn't like the view anymore.

I felt so sad when I did this one. Again, I was trying to do something scary, but ended up with something sad. I immediately had to write the little story so that I knew that she didn't get eaten up by a zombie. The pictures just seems sooo gloomy without it. Anyway, I hope you like my little zombie pic. And I hope it doesn't sadden your day.
