Description
She knew that it was over. She knew what the fires had meant. The others were already dead. She reached to the statue and prayed. Maybe they were being punished for not having the temple done. Maybe they were never the chosen ones. Or maybe, the gods had simply gotten bored with them and had moved on. She could only hope that someone was there, that someone was listening. She didn't want her family to die. She didn't want to see her people fall. She didn't want it to end.

I was thinking about all the fallen societies around the world that had died overnight or maybe crumbled in just a few months due to some disaster. It could have been a volcano, a single storm, or even invaders. I can imagine that in every instance that there was someone there, hoping, praying, and pleading that their children would be spared of the impending doom. Civilizations were tough back then, but they were also fragile. And you know those people lived their lives with hopes and dreams just like us, and then one day, the damn volcano erupts. And then it's all over.
