Description
Tutorial for painting a close-up of a Wolf (or any other furry creature).WARNING: large file. It might take a while before the tutorial shows up on your screen, so please, be patient. I was too lazy to add a preloader...
Use the buttons at the top of the tutorial to navigate through the slides. I have no idea why the text has turned out jagged and hard to read, so I apologise if you have difficulties reading it.
ARTIST'S COMMENTS
Thank you ever so much for my second DD ~AnimalLover345 and ^shelldevil !
EDIT: Due to popular demand I re-named the tutorial more appropriately "How to Paint a Wolf".
EDIT 2: Fixed all known spelling mistakes.
A tutorial I pulled together of my last Wolf piece. I don't know if it will be of help or use to anyone, but there's no harm in making one anyway! Please bear in mind that this is the first time I've drawn something this furry this close up, so I'm sure there are other ways of doing this too.
If you have any problems with viewing the tutorial or any questions or problems in general, please let me know. I'll be happy to help as much as I can
NOTE: The tutorial explains functions and options available in Adobe Photoshop CS2. Any older or newer version of Photoshop should still work just as well. I have no experience in any other digital editing program (such as GIMP or Corel Painter) so I have no idea to what extent you can follow the tutorial there. If anything, it might just give you an idea of how to draw similarly, but you will have to find out on your own I'm afraid.
You are not authorised to redistribute this tutorial or the original image without my written permission, or claim as your own. Please respect my wishes.

Cerona, I just have to say that you are a god! This tutorial of yours has helped me so much, I can now see a better and easier way to do realistic fur ;A; let me hug you and your tutorial you have explained it so well I have found it so easy to follow and you've made it interactive too which is so helpful for people to go along at their own pace. Even though I'm only in the middle of drawing an image atm I'm certain it will turn out perfectly and when it does I should probably show you how well you have brought across your teachings
thank you again for this magical tutorial

I tried doing this, But when I put a layer underneath the line art, it doesnt show up on the screan, and when I do it iver the line art, it covers it up. (I don't have photoshop installed on my computer so I'm using a website. It is like Adobe Photoshop. It's Pixlr.com) Can you please help me if you can?

cerona In reply to Kenekochan01 [2012-08-24 15:18:28 +0000 UTC]
Make sure the layer you are creating is a transparent one. When you draw on it, it should only show up the brush strokes that are currently on the layer and nothing else. I'm not familiar with pixlr though, so maybe it works differently on there.

If you put the line art on the original background layer, it will cover it up because that layer is not transparent. I usually make a new layer when I start for the line art, and I don't use the original layer.

this will definitly help ^^
but howdo you add that flat colour layer underneath the lineart? i'm confused....sorry im new at layers

cerona In reply to Freezingsteelmurder [2012-08-24 22:51:38 +0000 UTC]
Thank you
Layers can be added and re-positioned wherever in the layers panel as long as they are not locked. By default, they are transparent, and whatever marks or strokes you make on them will appear on top of the other layers underneath. You can add colour to the whole layer by using the bucket tool, or just start drawing with your normal brush

Thanks for making this tutorial! It helped me so much! I have never drawn any 'furred' animals before and I was actually scared to even start them. Now with your tutorial, I made a snow leopard and I kind of like the result. Here [link]
