Description Tutorial for creating a mirrored reflection effect in Photoshop.

Please note that this is a 2-part tutorial!

ARTIST'S COMMENTS

THANK you so very much for my first ever DD `MzzAzn and ^FantasyStock

I've got a few requests over the last couple of months to show how I do reflections in my pictures (as seen in [link] , [link] and [link] to name a few examples), so I thought I'd whip together a tutorial showing my way of doing them. It's definitely not the best way of doing it, and I'm sure there are some much simpler steps of doing this, but this is one of the ways you can do it.

Anyways, the tutorial will show you steps of how to create a mirrored reflection. The first part of the tutorial explains the process of mirroring your subject, whilst the second part shows how to mirror the background and make it more believable.

The steps shown were all done in Photoshop CS2, but I'm sure it will work to some extent in other programs such as GIMP or Painter as long as you make a few changes. Please feel free to ask if you have any quires about any of the steps.

You are not authorised to redistribute this tutorial or the original image without my written permission, or claim as your own. Please respect my wishes.

It is hard to make a tutorial and teach something to people. I appreciate it but you should change your font, it is hard to read.

No offense to your fans who don't know how, but this has got to be the easiest effect to do in Photoshop... Ever.

I agree it's a simple process, but if you haven't got anything nice to say, don't say anything at all. There are a lot of beginners that are here to learn.

All it takes to figure out this trick is a little cleverness and realization of the copy+paste function. Not all comments are going to be "Wow! You're so amazing! Wonderful work!" etc. Sometimes people say their actual opinion of what's going on.
It was still a concise and good tutorial.

Hi! I love your tutorial, but I have a little bit of a problem. Every time I try the gradient, and its set to transparent, I get black near the bottom section of the picture. On yours, you don't have anything on it. I was wondering if you could help me? I'm using Photoshop CS5

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

cerona In reply to LanyLan [2011-07-02 11:00:59 +0000 UTC]

Hmm I think I know what you mean yes, I get that problem from time to time too. When you first click on the gradient, there are a few different "default" ones that you can choose from, like white to black or any other solid to solid colour. Make sure you pick the "white to transparent" (or whatever colour is your chosen colour) as that's the only setting that will show up completely transparent. If you choose any of the solid ones and make them transparent, they tend to still show colour near the bottom. I hope you understand what I mean, and I hope it solves your problem, otherwise I have no idea

Hi, I've got only Gimp and also photoshop CS but I haven't use it yet. It's possible to try (I'll do it my self) to translate these tut in italian for Gimp World forum ([link] )? Of course I'll credit you ecause of we must to credit all our work and images taken from web without copyrights!
