This was just a circle hard edge brush with no "shape dynamics" turned on, just "transfer"

That part is the most important in taking the concept to the next level!

The key to this is translucency, which is why the human eyes are illuminated the same way these gems are here.

This honestly looks more like amber, or as someone below me said, honey

CGCookie In reply to BeadGCF17 [2013-09-23 18:59:12 +0000 UTC]

Agreed, when I went about doing it, I had more fun creating that amber look so I guess it could be called, shading an amber stone lol

silverelfshadows In reply to BeadGCF17 [2013-09-13 13:01:00 +0000 UTC]

... amber IS a gem...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

BeadGCF17 In reply to silverelfshadows [2013-09-13 13:21:59 +0000 UTC]

Technically, amber is tree sap, so it's not from the ground, same with pearls, so I don't count them as gems, since they are from other things than pressure and heat on certain minerals. (Amber to me is a fossil, as its solidified tree sap)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

jLundhArt In reply to BeadGCF17 [2013-09-13 13:39:51 +0000 UTC]

If you want to get even more technical, amber is tree resin not sap
And the defenition of a gemstone is "a precious or semiprecious stone that may be used as a jewel when cut and polished".
Some might want to include amber into that category, some might want to limit that to crystals.
In my case, the jury's still out

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

BeadGCF17 In reply to jLundhArt [2013-09-13 22:39:42 +0000 UTC]

well, i say amber isn't from the ground in the typical 'stone' sense

(also, what's hilarious is that Amethyst is just normal quartz but its oh so precious because its purple (and its my birthstone, so why am i hating on it?))

also, i believe this was meant for the literal gemstones like ruby or tigerseye (is that even a real one? or am i just too addicted to WoW?)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

jLundhArt In reply to BeadGCF17 [2013-09-14 05:08:48 +0000 UTC]

Things get very special and sought after if they're of an unusal colour: amethyst, blue amber, pink and black diamonds etc.
Only 100kg of blue amber is found every year.

BeadGCF17 In reply to jLundhArt [2013-09-14 15:44:28 +0000 UTC]

I never knew there was a such thing as blue amber!
