People who think Ozzy here raises interesting questions about good and evil...their MORONS!That's like if Hiltler actually acomplished world peace by killing of the Jewish...because that's what Hitler did, gave his people an enemy to unite them.
This is the fictional douche bag for which all others should be judged.

Only that Ozymandias sought piece while Hitler sought war.
Hitler wanted to whipe out all the nations except for Germans (jews were just phase one of his plan), while Ozymandias prevented worlds nations from whiping each other out
If he didn't do what he did, there would have been many more deaths (the nuclear holocaust was literally hours from happening)

Hitler wouldn't accomplish world piece by killing all the jews
In fact, Hitler never even wanted piece
The en of Watchmen rather raises the question whether it is moral to kill a thousands of innocent people in order to save milions.
It reminds me of the following dilemma:
There is a train heading down the tracks at large speed (so fast it can't stop).
There is a bus full of people stuck on the track and there is no time for them to get out of it.
On the other rail is a single guy whose leg got stuck.
You are in the control centre and have the switch before you.
If you do nothing, the train will hit the bus killing everyone in it and possibly even some people in the train.
If you flip the switch the train will change direction and kill that one guy.
What will you do?
In both cases you are a murderer, but you can decide how many people you end up killing.

Saving the world is a useless task...
It's like an old joke:
"How many psychiatrists are needed to change a burnt light bulb?"
Answer:
"Just one, but the light bulb must WANT to be changed..."

It's not quite the same as if Hitler had created world peace through genocide... Because there was no nuclear war brinksmanship at the time.
Similar, but not quite the same.

This is absolutely brilliant. Poor Rorschach, he was pretty out of his mind already but Ozzy's evil completely broke him.

I'm sorry, but you can't simply toss aside Veidt's methods as mere holocaust. Hitler based his act off of prejudice and hatred shared by other Germans. Veidt used his method as a way to sacrifice some for the good of future generations. On top of that, it was brilliantly orchestrated. Would you really want to live through a nuclear holocaust? Don't think of things so single-mindedly.

Well, I may have to agree that Adrian isn't quite like Hitler(in the graphic novel OR the movie).
I mean, just because he's rich, doesn't mean he's another Lex Luthor.
He's just...overambitious about saving the world.

Well, given the fact the book was written in the 80s, when a Nuclear War was(And, debatledly still is, a strong possiblity) it was a few million, or mass extinction at the hands of a few zealots on both sides.
Ozy did something morally grey, plus, with doctor Manhattan vastly changing the timeline, well...
Let's just say that Ozy, like countless others, was a Well Intentioned Extremist. Though, i feel Rorschach gets WAY to much admiration then he honestly deserves...

And Rorschach was vigilante with a warped sense of morality. He's not, in any way, shape, or for, a Hero. A progaonist, yes, but not a hero.

Darkness-Nova In reply to RocMegamanX [2009-04-12 04:15:31 +0000 UTC]
No, but I'd expect better then killing a purse snatcher. Rorschach is meant to show what someone like Batman or the Punisher would be like. Yes he's sympathetic. But if you honestly think someone like Rorschach wandering the streets is a good idea, you missed the point.

RocMegamanX In reply to Darkness-Nova [2009-04-12 05:47:23 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, I'll admit Rorschach is a bit off-his-rocker. That's what a bad childhood will do to ya.

Darkness-Nova In reply to RocMegamanX [2009-04-12 06:21:04 +0000 UTC]
Well, I doubt he was exactly sane to begin with. But his childhood certainly didn't help things.
I still say he's my favorite character, to be honest. Him, the Comedian, and Dr, Manhattan are my favorites, mostly due to their differing opinions on the world.
Honestly, I see Ozy as some kind of strange foil to Rorschach...Ozy is the tails to Rorschach's heads, so to speak.

Well, that's kinda the point.
I mean, technically Hitler was on the same thing, it's just that he is history's designated punchbag... naturally, im not saying he doesn't deserves all the crap he gets.
The thing is, these guys always rise a good THEORICAL point, yeah, the price of the greater good is always a good thing to ponder.
It's easy to say "let's kill a thousand to say millions", but what makes these guy douchebags is the fact that they didn't try to find a way to "save the world" without killing a crapload of people, not the fact that they shield on gray morality.
But yeah, this guy is a complete asshole, that's what i liked about him.
