Ah, yes... A sense of hope was oftentimes shimmery, and sadly fleeting. It looked awful good on paper, and when it felt strong enough, sometimes it even allowed Emil to drift off to sleep with a smile on his face. The Puddle situation was.. well, he didn't quite know what to say about it, but as her sixth season progressed, he really had to tilt his head at the mare and cross his arms. He'd never get tired of watching her jump, wild and infectiously excitable though she was, but goodness, Jasmine was having a hard time getting the mare to adopt a sense of direction that stuck.

The thoroughbred was hot, then cold. Ready, then not. Eager, then hesitant. She just couldn't seem to find a good place when it came to her sense of distraction away from the home arena. Emil really didn't think she refused so much because she was scared. She didn't look like a scared horse --discounting the first time at her Maiden Jumper where Jasmine flew over her shoulder and ate shit just two days after that shiny new health insurance kicked in--but when she did pull a quick stop, she always wanted to touch the jump afterwards. She'd always had something of a curious personality, so he chalked it up to inquisitiveness, or caution. She was more of a ditzy, overtly friendly creature than a flighty one, truth be told.

That sense of try hadn't gone away though. She didn't place well, but by God, she ran her little heart out, and Emil was proud of her at the end of every show. He debated putting her to pasture for her first foal on account of her inconsistency, but the more that he thought about it --the more that he saw her light up and jig around every time she was saddled up--he decided in the end to keep her on for one more season.
