Description

Literature added! Weww, that didn't take long

And yes, I know that in the USA first place ribbons are blue, but Moors Hollow is officially being set in the UK, so I'm.. adjusting

The system's working better! There were still a stupid amount of falls and crashes, but the chance lists are finally starting to even out a little bit. I'll have to tinker with them further, but I was so excited for Cortado to actually start placing! Kylie just didn't want Jasper to quit with him until he brought home a red ribbon, which was proving to be frustratingly difficult for some reason. Maybe 'Tado just isn't particularly passionate about jumping? He is kind of pudgy and lazy...

If he does well after his Regional qualification, then he might actually get to stay a stallion and have some babby pons! Time will tell.

 --Tado's Story-- [Next]
WC: 590

"Aww, look how pretty he is, Jasper!" Brett beamed that wide, eye-crinkling smile of his --honestly just beyond the moon to have been involved in.. well, something.

Cortado looked less enthused and more tired than anything. The chestnut stallion stood with his back hoof up and his eyelids and head drooping, semi-braided tail swishing this way and that to combat the very last of the flies that had decided to hang on through the chill of autumn's onset. Today, they were shooting photographs of him. His ribbons hung proudly from his bridle and reins --bright splashes of colour that both clashed and blended magnificently with the stark row of deciduous trees in full gold and red behind him. He'd worked hard in the jumping arena to take home the bounty that he had, and even Jasper --who usually prided himself in his indifference to the general happenings of Moors Hollow--felt quite proud of the amiable Swedish Warmblood.

This season hadn't been easy on the stallion, and Kylie had seemed quite frustrated with him the further they'd gotten into their local show listings. He had drive, for sure, but he always seemed to come in second, and as proud as Jasper was for the big lump of a horse, he knew that it caused his owner endless aggravation. She'd contemplated gelding him after his season had come to a close, but seemed to reconsider after he'd finally taken home a red ribbon in his third Maiden Jumper course of the year. It was on that note that she decided to let 'Tado rest while he was ahead, but Jasper was still quite optimistic about his future.

Sure, 'Tado would never be a flashy heel-snapping jumper gunning for gold in the Olympics, but Jasper was under the impression that the tubby big guy practically flew for how deceptively lazy he was. Tuesday and Outcry were more stereotypical as far as Show Jumping temperaments went, but 'Tado was something very special. He was a horse that could be trusted with smalls, and no matter the rider, he'd be more than happy to plod around the arena like the great hulking teddy bear he was. Throw an experienced rider on him and point him towards a jump though and.. well, he lit up. The stallion had more than enough heart to take on even the most intimidating of jumps, but Jasper knew that he could never truly go head-to-head with a quicker, more agile horse like Tuesday.

"Get his head up, yeah?" The American chuckled as he peered over top of the camera he'd managed to borrow from Kylie for the day. Brett was more than happy to oblige, though he had considerable difficulty given that 'Tado looked as though he might have been asleep and definitely wanted to stay that way. "Grab a handful of grass and hold it up or something."

The teenager reached down to rip up a small patch of Moors Hollow, to Jasper's utter amusement, and gently tapped it against 'Tado's semi-pink nose. Both eyes, big and brown, opened just a little wider, and the stallion's ears swung forward as his lips automatically went reaching for the snack. Brett beamed at that, and held his hand up higher as he took a step backwards --just enough for the chestnut to start to lean forward--and with that, the winning shot was taken.

"He's ridiculous, and I like him." Brett laughed, wrist tilting down to allow the horse his treat. Jasper just shook his head, but he couldn't help but agree.

I was really missing that sunny, beautiful light that autumn casts on all of the gorgeous trees around here, so I really wanted to at least slip it into my art. If I can't live it in real life, then you bet my horses get to enjoy the sunshine, haha!

Thank you very, very much!

Oh my goodness, thank you so much for your kind comment--

The background was probably the easiest background I've done so far, honestly. Just slap some colour on with the paintbrush, then blur the crap outta it!

Waaay too many! On the plus side though, they do make good fly swats if they decide to stay on after he shakes his head

Come to think of it, I think he's wondering how he got there, and if the blue ones are edible

Oh! This popped up in my inbox right after I joined the HARPG group, even if I've already left the comments required, I just HAVE to say something about this!
First off... I LOVE the lineart! The anatomy is spot on and I love how you've kept the lines black. The simple background adds a nice touch and makes the horse's color stand out really well. Also... I am a sucker for spiky mane! Lovely piece!

Chalcodes In reply to LittleRedToyota [2016-10-16 22:28:32 +0000 UTC]

Oh my goodness you are so sweet and my heart uguhgghggng--

Thank you so much for your kind words! I've been thinking a lot about changing up the colours of my lines, but ever since I discovered those thick, inky black lines I've been having a hard time making like Elsa and just freaking letting it go. CHUNKY LINES YEAHHH!!

I was thinking about letting 'Tado's mane grow out a little bit, but truthfully? I kinda like the close cut. Makes him look erm, stately! Like a stately potato

Yep, that's a lot of second places :'D But what do I see there- IT'S A FIRST PLACE RIBBON Congrats, Cortado! He looks so pretty with all those ribbons hanging from his tack. Lovely atmosphere, I really love the golden-orange colors, they fit so well to the scene

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Chalcodes In reply to Aliyska [2016-10-14 15:36:53 +0000 UTC]

I couldn't believe I'd rolled so many second places. He got his butt kicked in the jump-offs by mere seconds, so putting it all together was like 'yeah, oh.. OH he's going good! Yeah OH YEAH HE'S GONNA GET--second place.. another second place for you, 'Tado '

That red ribbon was worth getting near the season cap though. The pudgemeister doesn't quit!

Thank you so much!! It's fall here, but it's the icky, drizzly disgusting kind of fall --so I figured I'd go the exact opposite way with his background. Hoping that maybe I'll pull like an awesome weather forecast or something...

Wow, these are amazingly many 2nd places xDD
Well, his father is actually a Dressage horse, but when we tried to train him for that at BLS he never was that good in it x3
One question... I just noticed his old Ref was german... do you want a translation of it? (:

Chalcodes In reply to Fibonacho [2016-10-13 07:00:21 +0000 UTC]

I just kept crossing my fingers for a first place, but he stubbornly plodded into a multitude of seconds --often losing jump-offs by a matter of seconds. It was so frustrating, but we just couldn't quit!

I don't know if he's got the scope to be a champion jumper in the future, but he certainly has his own style, and the character is really growing on me. My staffers really love him, and even if he doesn't turn out beyond his Regional qualifier, he can always be re-purposed; he's a good boy.

Oh, I already had all of it, along with his sire's information translated! Thank you for offering though!!
