Description
Finally finished it. It took much longer than i expected and mostly because of the texture. This pine cone wouldn't have been a pine cone without the texture. You can check out previous updates by going here [link]The purpose of this drawing was to prepare me for the next one. My next drawing will have similar textures as this one and by working on this one it will be an easy transition when i start it. I know its overkill doing a whole new drawing to practice another one, but i can tell you that its a great way to practice. You can see the size of my next drawing will be by going here [link] . I also learned lots about pine cones
The drawing of the serval is 11x14 so you can see how large it will be. The size of the paper ill be using will 30x40. You can see how large it will be and it will be a first for me so im really excited about that one. I would like to thank everyone that has followed the progress on this one and for the support.

I'm a huge fan of your work and personally I think this should go into the metropolitan museum of art. No joke. By the way, I faved this deviation.

Incredible! My mother would love this.... Ironically, she lives on 4 acres covered in pine trees and she collects pine cones... go fig!

awsome deatail lisandro the contrast between lights and darks is fantastic and the way you layer each 'scale' adds so much depth.

This reminds me of the Ice Age scene in which Sid offered pine cones as really tasty snacks.
Your technique is stunning.

i really enjoy this drawing from you, and i knew it was going to be a good one the minute i saw the first wip thumbnail. years ago i made a small nature-walk still life in charcoal that included a pine cone...still one of my favorites. there's something very intriguing about pine cones after you've really studied them.
the variances in shades in your textures are great, they seem so defined and sharp, with hard tiny edges. a job well done, and good luck on the work ahead!

thank you. Some times the most uninteresting objects turn out to be the most interesting when you draw them. You learn so much drawing things that most people wouldn't think of drawing. Texture and lighting were my focus on this drawing and im really happy with the results.

How is the texture of a pine cone and a serval similar? As for your mode of researching something before you actually try to draw it, kudos! I only wish more artists actually did half the research you did: [link] and [link]

this drawing was practice for my next drawing which will have this type of textures. The picture that you saw in the comparison image is a drawing of a serval which is 11x14. It was just to show the size difference.
Research is the best way to add realism. You can't draw what your eyes haven't seen. You can try but that's where you start to lose realism. The more you know about what you are drawing, the more you'll be able to put into your drawings. If you get used to doing this it will make a big difference in the quality of your drawings.
