Description Great creatures roam the seas, and terrible monsters patrol the lands.  Legends state that in times of great need, the gods cast down a net to the planet to offer salvation from otherwise unavoidable doom.  And if any of these beasts ever significantly oversteps its bounds...

Apo + Chaotica

Thank you! I really enjoy how the colors turned out, though I was worried in earlier iterations of making this that the colors were too dark and there wasn't anything that popped out enough...but fortunately I was able to get the oranges spread over the image in an interesting way at the end.

The title was a bit out there! Read comments.deviantart.com/1/5701… for slightly more in-depth commentary about it XD

No, not too dark. Great amount of darkness and the hues are perfect. They compliment each other very nicely. Shows a lot of passion.

When I was working on earlier versions ( Early Fishhooks  ), it was a fair bit darker!  Apologies, I should have made that point a bit more clear.

It looks like hand painted, I can't believe it's a fractal...

Haha, thank you! I am having fun working with new textural stuff...and think I need to expand my own knowledge of variations again to see what other amazing stuff I have overlooked!

I am actually not a fan of abstract art, but this is very inspiring, great work!

Thank you The stories my mind works with cannot be captured perfectly with fractals...in fact, literal fractals describing scenes and characters are incredibly hard to create.

I try to bind feeling, emotion, and shape into something that hopefully is recognizable, or at least can speak to me.

Nice one!

I would like to print this, I love the energy you put in this masterpiece. Can I have the download link? Paying of course

I will likely make a print of this avaliable in the future -- currently, I'm going through some of my older artwork and rendering those at print sizes. This size is the only size I have rendered so far!

Thank you for featuring my artwork!  I saw the journal and will check it tomorrow when I'm not like 3/2 asleep so I can enjoy the other parts of it!

The past few days have been pretty crazy...and I can probably symbolize my way through how this directly relates to events that are going on in my own life, so that might be a contributing factor to the intensity!

Thank you  I think the pseudo-deadspace in the top left is a bit iffy, but I am happy overall with how this ended up!

It was a pain to get any discernible shape and texture into earlier versions of this (which I dubbed "darkhouse", as opposed to a "lighthouse"), but after a few days I was narrow some of the density bands (uhh, the glowing hooks that you see! Those shapes were significantly more spread out, and I eventually compressed them and they became those cool hook-like shapes) and get something from it!

Out of all the 73,000,000 things in my gallery?  I mean, I'm curious to know what draws you to it -- while I am happy with how this turned out, and rate it a bit higher than average (the textures on the glowy orange parts are pretty neat, I think!), I would be interested in hearing what you think resonates most.

Koshain In reply to ChaosFissure [2015-11-04 06:14:43 +0000 UTC]

Well ... it doesn't look like a fractal but more like a painting. I know I said this once before on one of your pieces but having a paint feel to it, I think that's unique.
It's visually appealing because you used complementary colors.
The sharpness of the hues of blues makes the waves look aggressive and unforgiving. The blurriness of the orange and reds indicate movement, swift. Like freshly forged metal taking it's first bath.
This is what I see.

ChaosFissure In reply to Koshain [2015-11-04 23:58:04 +0000 UTC]

The boundary between structured order and chaos often results in texture, at least from my perspective.  Because I often walk along that line, finding where structure exists, and then seeing how much I can push the border between sharp edges and softer parts of contrast, texture naturally follows what I create.  Sometimes, the depth and colors enhance the texture much more than others and they all worked out very well in this case!

As a fish hook is trying to catch something, the turbulence underneath by whatever is the prey definitely is present in this. Forging metal is a very apt description also; conveniently I watched some long videos on Youtube not too long ago about how traditional katanas are created, and it's absolutely fascinating.

this work has a eerily visceral feel and the description is perfectly fitting, wonderful job

ChaosFissure In reply to Explosiveunderscore [2015-11-04 05:11:44 +0000 UTC]

Thank you!  The title is a very indirect pun on naming conventions used in some of PSO's music (like "The Immortal Feather" or "The Divine Blade").  Except it had to revolve around a fishing hook somehow, and I guess the story just fell into place afterward
