Description So yep. This was my entry to SavAnijam 2007, a 24-hour animation competition at SCAD. The surprise theme this year was 'Spin/Twist.' This won Honorable Mention. :3

Done in Flash, frame-by-frame. This was really fun to do, and I'm really happy with it. I've never done any four legged motion before. And I got to do bouncy stuff, which is my fave. Bouncy and the overlapping action of the tail. ^^ Makes me happy.

And yeah, he's missing his tail in one shot. 24 hours goes by fast. ._.

" frame-by-frame " Is it a way to make it different? O.oΒ Β  Great movie))

Yup. Β "Frame-by-frame" is a term used to distinguish animation that's drawn for each frame, versus animation that's been produced using the tween tools in animation programs. Β (It's that sort of paper puppet feel you can get from Flash cartoons.)

Frame-by-frame - means that in every new frame you erase all what you have drew in the previous and draw a new movement? I'm also working with this type of an animation and it takes a long time to do it.. But look more like.. " live ".. ?..Β Β  Do you know,, is it a way to make the animations different and easier?..

ChaosKomori In reply to MontyTH [2014-07-06 04:22:36 +0000 UTC]

Well, that's the trade-off. Β Frame-by-frame will always look the best, but it also takes the longest. Β That's why most animation is done with symbol tweening. Β Though I think programs like Toonboom do a decent job with their shape deformers, to keep things from looking too puppety.

MontyTH In reply to ChaosKomori [2014-07-06 10:22:38 +0000 UTC]

What is "puppety" means?
Do you know how to work in that "Toonboom" ?
I'm working in flashm, but yeah, it takes a lot of time, also if you animate the lineart - and then you want to have animation with colour - you need to color all, for example, 100 frames! And if it's with shadows.. it will take a lot of time)) Do yoy know how to color it easily? One person told me that there is some programm.. it can do shadows by itself. Do you know such programms? )

I know that Toonboom has a few shadow tools, but they didn't seem that effective to me. Β They looked a little odd and fake. Β When I say "Puppety" I mean that the work looks like it's used Symbols and Tweens. Β You're using Flash, you should know what that is. Β If you draw all the frames one at a time, you're also going to have to color them one at a time. That's why most animation on TV uses Flash symbols. Β You break the character into different parts, and each part is a symbol, and then you move them around kind of like little paper puppets. Β There are plenty of tutorials online for that sort of stuff.

I work in flash only with that method)) I can't do anything in flash except that
Yeah, I saw tutorials with the "puppets".. It's like My little pony was animated.. ? I think it's even harder to draw each part separately - you can just forget to draw it in different layers thank youΒ  and what is easier for you? How do you color it?

ChaosKomori In reply to MontyTH [2014-07-21 03:22:10 +0000 UTC]

Mm, it depends on what you're trying to do and how quickly you want to do it. Β I do tween/symbol animation at work, so it's much easier and faster to produce a lot of animation in a short amount of time. Β If I want to do frame-by-frame animation, it's usually much shorter, and not often colored.

I dunno if I could teach you, that'd be a lot to teach, considering I finished four years of art college with a major in animation. >_> But for starters, you might want to take a look at the book "The Animators Survival Kit" by Richard Williams. That'll cover your basics in 2d traditional animation.

Very clever animation. You've got a really good grasp of weight there. What skills! :'D

Very nice colours too, even if it only is a simple representation.
