Seriously. Why does the God-Almightly Doomsday Device in science-fiction have to be the wackiest thing ever? In case you don't know what the image is of, it's the Psychic Dominator from Yuri's Revenge.Related content

Think it might have something to do with the detail for someone to make such a device.... the architecture might in some way, reflect the twisted nature of the bad guy's mind.

I dunno, the mortal engines/hungry cities series has one of the most realistic doomsday weapons I've yet to see (and with the coolest name too) - the "slow bombs".
the Slow Bombs are the non-superpower's bargaining chip against the superpowers (who have the more... traditional superweapons [although china seem to do pretty well with massive nuclear bombardment]); they take the form of a bunch of asteroids out in the asteroid belt that have been fitted with rocket motors. In the event of the owning country coming under attack, the rocket motors are activated to push the asteroid(s) into an earth-crossing orbit; the name "slow bomb" comes from the 5-10 years it takes between activation and impact.
There's just something about the idea of a slow doomsday weapon that I find cool - you know it's been activated, you know you can't do much to stop it, and you know it's going to seriously muck up your day when it gets to you.

Join SpaceBattles. There is no end to which the denizens there will come up with ways of turning things into high-velocity projectiles.

Hence the running gag of "One at sufficient velocity".

The most unfair thing was RA2:YR never had an official campaign for Yuri, that would've been awesome.

Because San Francisco is a city of weirdos in the Red Alert universe - the only way an alien invasion would make the news there is if it inconvenienced local traffic.

Or better yet, there is a scene from Episode 73 of Red Vs Blue where Wyoming and Lopez argue over answering a phone call, out of which Lopez says, "Why do we have a million doomsday devices and no answering machine?"

1 weather storm and 4-6 black eagles could take that tower out... unlike the 12 harriers that got shot down earlier in the intro.

Indeed, it's not very hard to deal with "superweapons" since they're stationary devices. Just imagine if they were mobile.

I have one such mod - the Allies get an Ion Cannon and the Sovs get a UFO that drops nukes (both are slow-moving air targets though)

Hey, you can blame EA for screwing around with time machines again (the first time they did so was in Yuri's Revenge, but at least they didn't screw around with erasing someone as well.)
It's actually a bit of irony since the lack of nuclear weapons was what gave rise to the Empire of the Rising Sun in the first place. Mind you, I'm still sticking to RA2 for the purposes of a decent storyline. It flows a lot better into Tiberium Dawn like what the Red Alert series was supposed to do.

yeah, i liked RA2's story alot better than RA3, i also hate the combat in RA3, in RA2 things like apoc tanks could attack air units, not in RA3, most units can only attack ground units or air units, not both.

A mammoth (apocalypse) tank is not a mammoth tank without those AA missiles. That is for sure.
It's actually kind of funny to think that my modded version of RA2 acts in a similar way to Starcraft (medium-long ranged infantry units could attack airborne targets as well.)

Hmm... nothing quite beats having a massive infantry battalion, tank division, harrier squadron or naval armada to crush the enemy (I particularly like naval maps for that reason.)

Yus. Superweapons tend to be that way, in exact case with the Allies and Yuri, while the Soviets have more realistic and practical superweapons.

Indeed. I might just note that the Allies, while their superweapons are rather top-of-the-line in comparison to the Sovs, is not as bizarre as any of Yuri's creations.

I'm going to assume that you've never played Yuri's Revenge before - let alone the entire Command & Conquer series. We're talking fictitious superweapons designed to do the wierdest things (The image above is of a psychic dominator, a device which unleashes a tital wave of psychic energy to enslave the minds of anyone on the planet.) Also compare this with other superweapons from cartoons and Dr. Strangelove.
