Description
First off I gotta say, I love chameleons... and Pascal is adorable! His character design I adore, many because chameleons aren't the most easiest creatures to draw. The main reason why I wanted to draw Pascal is because I know tons of kids are now going to want a cute little chameleon after seeing Tangled. ( maybe even some unaware deviants here) Chameleons are not easy to take care of. They are one of the hardest reptiles I've ever cared for and they are pure gluttons. A healthy adult chameleon will eat well over 200 crickets in a week. Every 3 to 6 months you need to be prepared to buy a 70 - 100 dollar lamp so they get the best UV's. Screen in cages, not glass are best suited for their habitat with needed a lot of extra room for them to climb on. Despite how Pascal is in the movie, chameleons are really anti social. They stress out easy so the more you hold them the more they tend to panic. Thus any kid is going to want to hold their pet and "play" with it so this really isn't a ideal pet for young children.
Chameleons are cool, you have to love that long toung and the way they hunt. I just hope baby chameleons will find a good home... and not go to someone who just wants a pet like their favorite Disney character Pascal. Please research every pet you intend to bring into your home. Make sure its a good match and that you can provide the proper care and life that animal deserves. That's what Pascal would want.

Something I find interesting is that of all the pet animals for a Disney princess, a chameleon was not one I would expect. Β That's not a complaint though, if anything I think it makes it stand out more.

Hey Charfade.
My first reason for coming here was to ask you're permission to use this stunning representation of Pascal in our new logo design. Im the founder of MagnaRep: Reptile & Exotics, Rescue & Support. We are an animal Charity dedicated to the safe sharing of knowledge to better the lives of captive kept exotics and to rescue those in distress. but after reading this description i also want to thank you. You are 100% correct in everything you have said. Chameleons are not the easiest pets to keep, they requre a great amount of expense, time, patients and understanding. They are not to be taken lightly. I must commend you for putting this here in public view as it will educate people who know little about their care. If you give us permission to use the image i will of course let you give the final say on the edited image so nothing will go live without you're consent
Please take a look at our site, it has examples of our work

I also wanted to thank you, for putting down what you did in the descirption box. They are Hard work to take care of and I wish more people saw it - the way we do. Pascal in Tangled is Adorable - but chameleon's aren't Pascal is many means. Research is the best way to go - it getting people to actually do it though.
At least we think a like

A really cute pic Pascal is such a funny chameleon xD
And you're right about making good choices when it comes to pets. People shouldn't get a pet just because you saw the animal in a movie or a TV series being kept as pets. Besides the examples of Dalmatians with "101 Dalmatians", Rats with "Rattatouille", there's also the owls with "Harry Potter" and Clown fish with "Finding Nemo"
I'm just glad so far nobody tried to catch Platypus's for the exotic pet trade because of the popularity of Phineas & Ferb. Zoos already are having serious problems keeping Platypus's alive and/or breeding in captivity, so there's no way normal people could possibly keep them as pets without getting them stressed or sick.

I had a water dragon. THOSE guys are tough too.. Didn't think a Chameleon would be hard like that but.. I kinda figured it's all disney magic when Pascal is out of a cage and on a shoulder during most of what I've seen of the trailor

So cute, nice drawing.
btw, I like that you included a little psa about chameleons as pets. I worked at a small pet store and trust me a lot of people want chameleons despite having little or no experience/ knowledge with reptiles. Chameleons can be wonderful pets but they are very high maintenance and particularly prone to certain health problems.
I disagree with the point you make about them being anti-social. Some chameleons are nasty and I wouldn't trust a kid under the age of 10 to handle or care for one properly but there are a number of factors to their temperament. Females tend to be more open to handling than males. Also, some breeds are generally more tame than others. For example, panthers, flap-necks, oustalet's, and female veileds are much more approachable than jackson's, fischer's and young male veileds. Mostly, it depends on how you care for them.

well I guess anti-social wasn't the correct way to phase it. I meant they stress easy and over handling them isn't the best idea. I had a male chameleon from a very young 2 weeks of age, I held him consistently though out his life ( 30 mins or as very other day ) so he was used to me. But I made sure I took extra care not to stress him out. If he did seem stressed I put him back. I held him less when we got our cat because she was always curious and caused him to freak out XD. One can not just walk around with a Chameleon like they can with a bearded dragon. Which was why I made that comparison that a happy chameleon is a low stressed chameleon.

Soooo cute. He is the biggest reason I want to see that movie, actually. I'll finagle a way to see it over winter break.
I'm glad you've posted this description. Disney movies about pet animals always generate a wave of interest in the animal, which usually has negative repercussions on the breed or species in question. A lot of people adopted Dalmatians after 101 Dalmatians without researching the needs of the animal, and it turns out they're a bit harder to care for than most dogs due to their genetic history and nature. Similarly, after Ratatouille, a lot of people adopted rats without knowing what they were in for, as rats, being more intelligent than many rodents, are also more demanding. People need to educate themselves on pet animals before adopting them willy-nilly.

This was a great movie. I love how you drew Pascal. If kids want a Pascal so much, they should buy a cuddly plushie at the Disney Store.

adorable. This is wonderfully done.
I wanted a chameleon once as a child, my mother said no and made me get a hamster >> which in hindsight wasn't really the best decision either.

I love the picture, but my favorite part is prob'ly your description. I never knew that about chameleons, and the sad thing is you're prob'ly right: there's going to be a lot of kids wanting these guys now who won't really know the ins-n-outs of their care (and prob'ly parents who won't bother researching). (Hopefully they'll stick with the plushies, until the kids are old enough to realize how important proper care is.)
Love the pic, and love the information. C:

XD thank you! and yeah, my parents always told me when I was younger and wanted a pet they said when I could carry the cage I could get one... then it changed to, when I could afford the food on my own I could get one... I had to present a diagram analysis of my weekly budget showing them that I could afford it, and not just the initial cost.
needless to say... I never got one until I was an adult... and even then the up keep on chameleons were very time consuming. I loved my Chameleon, and I'm glad I was able to I had one. But would I get another, probably not. I'll stick to snakes. XD

Oh, wow - I like your parents' philosophy, especially if you've always been into the more exotic pets (the ones that took more care than a standard dog). xD My mum's a total dog person, and I'm a dog/cat person, so growing up we always had at least one dog 'n cat. The most exotic we ever went was a turtle, and that was. . .interesting, to say the least. The thing was batshit crazy and ended up committing suicide. xD (Sad at the time, but hindsight. . .we've had a lot of laughs at that lil' bugger's expense. *horrible*)
