I'm cosplaying as Kira Izuru from Bleach, and I need to draw on his weird eyebrows, but when I try to make mine lighter so I can draw over them, nothing I've tried works. Do you know a good way to fix that?

Sry for the late reply~ I had a bit of a hiatus from DA : )
For lighter eyebrows, you can simply use a white eyeliner and draw over them. There is another way, but I have never tried it. It's basically (from what I've heard) to use a glue stick, run it over your eyebrows, and then apply foundation and powder. You might have to do a bit of research because I have never tried it, so I'm not entirely familiar with it, but I think it works pretty well ^^

Hello! I really like your romano cosplay <3
I want to start doing make-up for Spain (my natural skin tone is white, with red undertones). I was wondering if you could advise me on foundation for a tanned character, like your romano?
I'm not sure where to start, and only using my mum's make-up, I started to look rather orange, haha :V I'm completely new to make-up....
I've also heard about bronzer?
Also what about the hands/legs if they are on show?
Thanks and sorry for all the questions!

ChasseNeige In reply to Noktivus [2011-04-12 21:52:56 +0000 UTC]
Thanks!! : D
For my Romano, I basically just put on press powder that's several shades darker than my natural skin tone. I think, to avoid looking orange, you can try looking for a shade that has less yellow pigments. The one I used is almost like a matte brown.
I've never actually personally used bronzers, so I don't know a whole lot about them, but browsing through a makeup review website or forum has always helped me when I'm looking for products I'm not familiar with~ Try youtube too; you can find really good tutorials on there : )
For my arms in this picture I actually just used the same press powder for my face, but with a really big brush LOL I don't use that powder for anything other than cosplay so I didn't really care much about wasting it XD I've also heard of people using spray-on tans, so many that's a good alternative if you're doing large areas.
Np~ I hope I helped XD

Wow, thanks! That's really helpful! I think I'll experiment and such, and see what happens :'3
I'm a bit scared of using a spray on tan, but I guess it depends on how long it lasts, and such :0
Thanks so much!!

Truly a talented makeup artist *_*
Egh, I practice my makeup and take pics after
I start to wonder why it seems like my makeup is not shown much
I think the reason why yours look good on pics is; the MORE DRAMATIC makeup
HAH! >D
I also have a hard time contouring; the nose contouring and the blush on cheeks
I usually put blush on my cheeks (like in Romano's here) and not under them
May I ask why you put it under when it comes to your female characters (as stated in the tutorial) ?
Nice foundation btw. All I have for now is the Korean BB cream XD Which... I think only works for everyday MU
Sorry for the long comment XD
I just look at you dA all the time because I really idolize your makeup skills HAHAHA!
*gives a tomato*

Thanks!! ^^
Oooo, yeah, photoshoot makeup is pretty different from everyday makeup (more dramatic in general) =O
I put blush under my cheekbones to help contour actually LOL I tend to think feminine characters have softer contours, so instead of using shading I just use my blush XD I still use a -little- shading, but not a lot.
Thank you~ : D I'm not very familiar with that brand, but everyone has preferences when it comes to makeup, so I think you'd be a better judge of what works for you ; )
Npnp~ I don't mind answering questions ^^ I'm just less active on DA nowadays so I might reply slow, but I always make sure to reply (....eventually XD)
Awwww, thanks!! ;DD

I've been practicing the eye makeup and I SOOOOOOOOOOOOO have a hard time changing the shape of my eyes T_T
Sometimes I'm just tempted to "draw" it in with eyeliner HAHAHA! But that would make it look too artificial T_T
Sometimes I try to put more white highlights in the eye where I want to "extend" the white part to make my eyes bigger
then I add pink or brown around it --- like drawing a "fake eye" in as if editing in photoshop HAHAHA!
And whenever I do some dramatic makeup by extending the eyeshadow to widen the eyes --- I end up looking.... more chinese/asian from afar! (because the eyes seem too stretched to the side T_T)
Grr, I've been trying to make my eyes look bigger, wider and rounder >_<
And if I thicken the eyeliner on my upper eyelid: my double eyelids disappear---- or is that alright in dramatic makeup?

ChasseNeige In reply to SlumberPoppy [2011-04-05 21:58:06 +0000 UTC]
Hmmm, maybe you can try creating a deeper crease/eye socket~ I've seen a lot of cosplayers use that makeup and it makes them look very anime-like : )
Try using eyeshadow along the crease of your eyes, like....feel around the top of your eyeballs (I can't think of a better way to explain this XD), that would be where your natural crease is. Some ppl refer to their double eyelids as their crease, but personally I think the crease is actually where your eyeballs meet your socket. How dramatic you can go with the makeup depends on the character you're cosplaying, but if you're doing makeup for a character where you can be really dramatic, you can try to use layering of eyeshadow, and you will be able to create a deeper crease, hence creating a deeper eye socket look.
Start with lighter shades, and work your way to darker, but as you go darker use "thinner" strokes along the deep part of your crease (like....right where the top of your eyeballs are XD), so in away you -are- creating an artificial "line", but it's really more of a shadow you're creating for a deeper eye socket effect.
This makeup takes a few tries to get it though, so play around and practice before doing it for a convention or a photoshoot (and be patient). In a way, it does look "artificial", but I mean, you're trying to look like an anime character here, and they rarely actually resemble real human beings (i.e. massive eyes and tiny little nose, ect). XD
Hope that helped >_<

SlumberPoppy In reply to ChasseNeige [2011-04-05 22:24:59 +0000 UTC]
Ah, so then...
My eyelids are more of "Asian double eyelid" than western double eyelid type
Like in western, they have less fat in their eyelids while asians- it's merely the folding of the fat in the skin XD
So since mine is like that, I'd just "draw in another eyelid/crease" ?
Cuz it would look alright in pics/from afar? XD

ChasseNeige In reply to SlumberPoppy [2011-04-06 01:09:03 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, cuz Caucasians have deeper eye sockets so they look like they have bigger double-eyelids; some do (compared to Asian double-eyelids), but some actually have similar lids, but they just look bigger due to their deeper creases.
Yep, that's pretty much it~ ^^ I don't have deep creases/eye sockets either, but it's possible to achieve that effect with makeup. Just be really careful and patient, and you'll be fine. ; ) The makeup actually looks really good on camera, and even in real life it can look very real. : )

OMG THANKS SO MUCH!
I tried it - drawing and playing with shadows to create a "western-ish" crease
AND IT WORKED SO WELL!!!
THANKS SOOOO MUCH!!!
What really helped me were
The patience/being careful - really taking time
And
The starting with lighter colors to dark and using thinner brushes as I go

Okay, annoying question. Do you find the cost of the makeup reasonable? (I'm not the one paying, so I need to know before I go commit suicide for this. XD) Also, what's a cheaper brand with just as much impact? D=
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
ChasseNeige In reply to Neyaphine [2011-01-16 01:51:51 +0000 UTC]
Well, depends on what brand you buy XD It's near impossible to generalise something as wide-ranged as cost for makeup =O I use a lot of makeup from the body shop, and I really like their products (being organic and stuff), so I think their prices are very reasonable.
I think regular department store brands are pretty good. Everyone has their own favourite brands due to different skin types and what they look for in makeup (and what they use makeup for), so there's not really an answer.

Neyaphine In reply to ChasseNeige [2011-01-16 02:27:07 +0000 UTC]
Haha, too true. I usually use MAC makeup, but recently they've boosted the price up. So, it's becoming unaffordable. XP I think I'll end up getting some body shop, then and seeing how that does. It looks fabulous from what I've seen, so hopefully there's no secret tricks to using it. XD
