Description
This is something I've been intending to do for a while. I hope someone finds it useful.IMPORTANT: This is not just for females, or for female characters. The tips and techniques described here (even if not the specific style) are useful for all cosplayers! If I can use it for my crossplays, so can you.

Nice tutorial! However, I think you should add one thing, about mascara. People with light-brown eyelashes should use brown mascara, 'cause eye make-up looks horrible with light eyelashes. it looks just very odd, like if they didn't have eyelashes at all.... Just waterlines. Looks extremely horrible with dark make-up. Unless the character cosplayed has light eyelashes of course.

I have since revised this guide, as per my artist comments, to include more information I've learned in my many years of costuming and more specific advise for different skin tones and colourings. I'm working harder on a more comprehensive re-make.
Back when I made this I found that rubbing vaseline into my lashes was enough to darken their appearence and get rid of any powder residue that makes eyelashes lighter, so mascara wasn't something I ever needed/used. I'd also never applied make-up to someone else so different colourings wasn't something I'd been exposed to.
Hope that makes sense.

Vaseline makes my lashes shiny only haha. But I didn't mean that if person had light eyelashes due to the powder, but natural. SOrry if I don't make sense/don't understand. xD

Glad to be of use. I actually plan to update this once I get my camera back with some more useful tips, and will be starting a blog with a bunch of different styles for different characters etc.
I will update this guide when I do so keep an eye out.

Awesome tutorial, this was really helpful!!
Do you have a specific type or brand of temporary face paint to suggest? I cosplay Allen Walker from D. Gray Man (picture ref: [link] ) and at past cons I have never been able to keep the red paint for his scar on my face. It always seems to sweat or rub off, even after vigorous application xD I've been using the cheap crayon-like face paint that they sell at the craft store.

Glad to help.
Yeah, crayon-style stuff is mostly a waste of money and time. If i'm using facepaint I will generally use Snazaroo, which i'd paint on with a small sponge or brush, but for Allen the best I can suggest is to try and find Stargazer liquid eyeliner (you can get this in a normal eyeliner form, or as a felt-tip style pen) as you can get really good colour range and pay-off from them. You will get a nice thin line from eyeliner too which you won't always get with face-paint.
My best tip though for keeping designs like that from rubbing off in a con environment is to prime the entire area (you can get face make-up primers, but Too-Faced or Urban Decay eyeshadow primers work just as well), and then set it with an invisible powder or eyeshadow of the same colour. If you really want to be sure, there are products on the market for fixing face-paint and make-up; I use Ben Nye setting spray over all my make-up for cons now, but Urban Decay's All Nighter setting spray will do the trick a bit cheaper (might be different in the US, so search around).
Hope that was helpful.

Oh, very helpful! I'm such a n00b when it comes to make-up, but I think this will help immensely!
What do you suggest for people with really bad, purple-ish allergy bags under their eyes?

I actually have the same. The best bet is a yellow-toned concealer.
If you don't want to deal with the prices a lot of companies offer, the best i've found to work is eyeko's touch and go concealer, which can be a little dark for some skintones but has that slight yellow to it.
Hope that's helpful.
