Description
NEXT-->Here’s the start of a really short comic about Nicole and Shard called, Memory. My first entry for the #ShardxNicoleSummerContest The theme for the contest is "Hope" and you'll really start seeing that theme towards the end.
The story will be told in parts and is not a full 22-ish page type story. Each part will jump in time, as if you’re skimming through an issue of a comic book. So I'm going to leave big gaps for the readers to fill with their imagination.

I honestly don't see why post-SGW couldn't have Shard back to begin with.
I mean OK, I know one of Sega's new mandates was there can only be one Metal Sonic, but Shards revised post-SGW could be he was Metal Sonic 3.0 who comes from the Sol Dimension.

A part of me thinks that Gemerl might actually be Shard. I mean, they have similar color schemes and from what little we saw of Gemeral they act the same

I do see the similarities, but Gemerl was based on Emerl while Shades latest body was based on Metal Sonic 3.0 from Sonic Rivals 2.
If the writers wanted to, they could of kept Shard given Ian Flynn made Shard (or remade him from the original Metal Sonic).
I know one of Sega's mandates was to keep it to one Metal Sonic, but Shard could of been Eggman NEGAs Metal Sonic before becoming Shard.

Well, well! Another comic from Chauvels to behold. With Nicole and Shard at the forefront, this already has my interest. I already like the concept of the story, since Shard never found his place in the new timeline, and I'm curious to see if he can re-establish his connection with Nicole. Honestly, this is a topic that was completely glossed over in Archie comics, so I'm hoping you can tackle it with more poignancy. The drawing and colouring are suitably deft for you. I see you're using coloured lighting a bit more, which is a nice treat. However, Shard's legs are hilariously tiny! If you compare him to official artwork, you'll see you placed the knees way too low, and the perspective from the viewing angle means you should have drawn the shins a bit on the long size. Instead he comes off as a midget. Poor bot.

It's good that you name-dropped Phage to give this a clearer setting. I love the way Nicole is all-business in the first couple panels, then suddenly she has a very emotional response (even if she doesn't understand why). It seems like the final panel ought to have had even a minimal background. I know Shard is the focal point there, but that green just feels too empty.

Good point! I'll be sure to mindful of empty spaces like this. In fact, I might have to add more backgrounds to the next page because it could have the same little problem.

This is as close to canon as this ship will get. I've heard IDW will not only take over the comic series next year, but they're dropping a few characters; Shard among them.

This is real or fan-made? Since the Sonic comics are moving from Archie to IDW next year, you think IDW could bring back Shard and also Mina Mongoose as well?

Sadly, I don't think that's too likely. IDW could certainly reuse the SatAM and Archie reboot characters if they want to, but Mina is legally owned by Bollers and Shard is... complicated. Unless they somehow gain the rights to use them, I don't really them making another appearance.

I wonder if Karl Bollers ever thinking of reusing Mina Mongoose in a future project someday, even completely outside of the Sonic comic universe.

From what he's said on the subject, I don't think he really cares all that much about it. His time at Archie was pretty rough and he's moved on to other stuff since then.
I guess he decided to put all that behind him. It's too bad another certain writer couldn't have done the same.
