The fourth and final commission for ohstalon06 from my original batch of sketch commissions is complete! With his free upgraded, he decided to include an additional character in this piece. So, from Cardcaptor Sakura, here we have Sakura Kinomoto, the Cardcaptor herself, strung up to a pillar beside her friend and rival, Meiling Li, who also shares the same ticklish fate. Sporting some cute traditional Chinese outfits, Sakura and Meiling have found themselves in Hong Kong on vacation. But it looks like these two have gotten involved in some mischief! Perhaps Meiling's cousins took a liking to their new Japanese visitor, and wanted to have some fun with her... I guess Meiling's protests got her caught up in the same boat as Sakura! Now they aren't going anywhere for a little while, but with the magical work these two do on a daily basis, maybe this is just what they need to unwind a little!This was an interesting set-up, I have to say... Besides the fun perspective play I implemented here, I've never drawn anyone suspended by a pillar like this and given the tickle treatment. Initially, I had drawn both girls with their arms bound above their heads. But, while drawing, I quickly realized that such a position would be very uncomfortable, and potentially very dangerous for them. So instead, their arms were made to be bound at their sides, their weight distributed more evenly through wooden rungs coming out of the pillar. This way they can still laugh it up, and not have to worry about literally losing their breath in the process! I'm relatively happy with the results, and would like to experiment more with other unique positions one day in the future. All that and more next year, let's hope!
Just one more to go, guys... One more commission, and at last, they'll all be completed! Wish me luck!!

The binding is pretty unique indeed but looks like it's working perfectly for them. I missed the anime train on this one but seems she whas a lovable target indeed as shown here. Nicely done on the feathers , they look suuuupeeeer fluffy and tickly for those sensative soles.

Aaah cuties from what is probably my #1 favorite anime! How could I not love this?
The outfits are cute a Meiling's expression is especially adorable. I see her as being the type who would go bananas under this treatment. Tougher temperament, until a feather comes into contact and then she's an absolute mess of hysterics.
The set-up here is definitely something new as far as this kind of pic goes. I'm reminded of the wobbling towers from Pokemon Gold and Silver. Needless to say if they were strung to those, the feathers could could just stay in one place.

I had a feeling you'd be happy to see the two of them here! You're one of the bigger fans of magical girl series that I know, if not the biggest, and I know this particular series holds a special place in your heart.
I've seen suspended tickles before, but not with a set-up quite like this! I wanted to be sure they wouldn't be chafing against the ropes as they wriggled about, as well as have plenty of support at their upper bodies to keep them from hanging painfully against the pillars. And in the end this arm restraining looked a lot more "ancient Chinese-esque" than just having them tied above the head.

I realize only now that they kinda look like those practice dummies that martial artists use, where they deliver their punches and kicks directly onto the wooden rungs coming out of the dummy's body. Didn't intend for that, but sure, that helps it along a bit more!! Thanks for the comments, friend!

Now this is a very interesting set up lol. Awesome job here, it's been a while since I've seen Sakura and friends enjoy a good laugh lol. I loved the little story you had with it as well, made it cute while devious lol.

I recall watching this show as a kid and in recent years have both liked to see and sometimes thought about pictures or stories of this nature involving the characters from Cardcaptor Sakura, mostly because I find them so cute. (Sakura in particular) So it's a treat to see a piece from you focused on the series.
Think you did an excellent job capturing the likenesses of both girls, I was able to tell immediately who the characters were because you managed to perfectly emulate the style of Sakura's hair and the roundness of her face while rendering her facial expression in your own style. Speaking of expressions, you did some fine work in that department and seem to convey exactly how each girl is reacting to the tickle treatment they're being put through. Sakura seems to not have given in quite yet with her head held high and one eye open, her eyebrows giving the sense that she can't believe the situation she has found herself in. On the other hand poor Meiling seems to have crumpled under the feathery onslaught, her head hung in "defeet" while her eyes are clamped shut with appears to be the beginning of tears forming, her body posture and the positioning of her feet also seem to suggest she may be taking this whole affair worse than Sakura. (Whose own bubble like tootsies look adorable while we're on the subject of feet) I'd also say you did quite well mimicking the Chinese style of clothing Sakura apparently wears at some point in the first movie.
Not too well versed in the physics of a hanging body, but to me the wooden rungs look like the perfect solution simply because they remind me of the training equipment I recall seeing used in martial arts training in one place or another.
To reiterate, this is overall an awesome piece to see from you, possibly among my new favorites of your portfolio, out of your newer pieces at the for sure.

I'm glad people can see the differences in their facial expressions and how they represent how the characters' responses to this scenario. Sakura's taking it better than Meiling, clearly, but that doesn't make the situation any less fun to see from either of them! And thank you for noting the shapes of their feet! I wanted to try and distinguish them a bit more than simply making one pair bigger than the other or something like that, but it felt right for Meiling to have the more slender pair, while Sakura's would be more babied and softer-looking by comparison. As for their garments, they were actually taken straight out of the first film, as I used references the commissioner so kindly provided to me to make them look accurate to the movie.
You aren't the first to mention the similarity of the rungs to martial arts equipment! Now that it's been pointed out, the situation makes even more sense of itself. It was not my intention to make it look like that, but I'm glad it works out after all!! Thanks so much for the kind words, they are very much appreciated!

Ah, no problem, I understand what with your work and the holidays.
May have said this before, but facial expressions feel like they're very important in pictures without dialogue because they're one of the few and often most telling ways of getting an idea of what exactly a person or persons are experiencing. Simultaneously having a cute looking face like Sakura does here doesn't hurt either!
It's nice to get a peek at the approach you took to drawing each girl's pair of feet, looking at them in hindsight I can see the slenderness you were going for with regards to Meling and how the roundness of not only her toes, but her heels and possibly other parts of her feet give Sakura's pair a babyish look.

Personally, I think the rungs you added could possibly have added just as much discomfort, gravity causing them to dig into their pits. I THINK. If it were me, I would have just had their hands at their sides, but that's just me. Maybe we can PM and discuss bandage physics?

It'd be one thing if all of their weight was being put entirely on their underarms, but they're also held up and against the pillar both at their elbows as well as their wrists, divvying their weight throughout rather than being supported in only one spot. The ropes at their legs also give them just enough additional support so as not to be uncomfortable. Having their arms above their heads, with nothing resembling a foothold for them to stand on, gravity would put a tremendous amount of pressure on their chests, weighing them down and making them unable to breathe. The original position would have worked out just fine if they were standing upright, with their feet on the ground. But because they're off the ground as they are, this alternative method prevents them from suffocating, as well as keeping them perfectly in place, so as not to have tight ropes being the only things holding them against the pillar. First would be the threat of suffocation, then we'd have to be concerned about them losing circulation!

This is just adorable and I like it a lot! I think you did splendid work on these two as I instantly recognized them and all their cuteness X3 not all artists can... CAPTURE these characters in their own style so well
