February 27th, 2021 marks the 25th anniversary of the release of Pokémon Red and Pokémon Green in Japan, making the series officially 25 years old today! Pokémon has been a significant part of my life since I was a kid in the 90's, witnessing its popularity boom first-hand, and falling into its clutches like every other kid my age. Red Version was my first entry into the series, but I quickly picked up Blue Version, then Yellow, and eventually, Silver, Gold, and Crystal versions. Not to mention the spin-offs, like Pokémon Stadium and Pokémon Snap! I was a huge fan back in the day, drawing all the critters and characters and immersing myself in the world.

Unfortunately, when I was unable to get my hands on a Gameboy Advance as the 3rd generation of games released, I dropped out of the series entirely, and it left a void in me. It wasn't until I met the woman who would eventually become my wife that I started to become interested in the series again, watching her play Pokémon Diamond on her new DS Lite. Not long after, it was announced that Gold and Silver would be getting a remake on the DS themselves, and, being that it was the last generation I had touched, I decided to give them a shot.

Just like that, I was hooked all over again. I've remained steady with the series ever since, getting each new entry to the series at launch, getting to know the characters, discovering the new monsters, and exploring their world. I may have taken a short break from the series as I was growing up, but now that I'm back in... I think I'll still be playing for the next 25 years, as well.

Yesterday also brought us news of three new entries to the Pokémon series: an ambitious open-world RPG-styled title called Pokémon Legends: Arceus; and the long-awaited remakes of Generation 4, Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl! These remakes have me interested for the simple fact that it was the generation that brought my wife back to the series all those years ago, and they're frequently regarded as some of the best in the series. They've gone with an adorable chibi style for the overworld visuals, too, a loving way to recapture the look of the original DS titles in 3D! With these two designs co-existing in the same game, I had to draw a silly little something to celebrate the remakes, as well as the 25th anniversary of the series as a whole.

How about that! Looks like you can tickle yourself! At least, Dawn seems perfectly capable of doing so!
