I was always the little kid who would absolutely bawl whenever I accidentally let go of my balloons after a party. I couldn't stand the thought of them floating off into the sky without me. My parents would always console me, telling me that they were free now, and that we should be happy for them.Whenever I see a stray balloon bobbing along high above, I can't help but smile. I hoped to capture both feelings in this picture. Both the distress and sadness of seeing them leave, but also the sheer joy in being airborne.

i remember when i was small, i had a balloon full of helium and i tied it to my table so it wouldn't float away. the next day, it ran out of helium as my mom tried to explain to me what happened. I always thought that was the way balloons died.

You really captured it. Perfectly. There it is. At one of m birthdays, I think it was ten or eleven, it was all over, we were leaving, I had a couple red balloons tied to m wrist. As we we walking out, they came undone and flew away. It felt very right, the perfect thing to happen after such a day.
